Accounting Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARYResponsible for the maintenance of one or more of the Company's major subsidiary accounting systems with minimal guidance from management. Responsible for the maintenance of the books and records of one or more of the Company's affiliated corporations or joint ventures with minimal guidance from management. Perform analyses and other accounting work as required. Supervise and provide direction to the Property Accountants. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND FUNCTIONSAccounting Department ManagementMonitor responsibilities of the Property Accountants. Ensure there is adequate back-up and cross training in all functions.Lead, provide guidance, and train the Property Accountants. Assist in employee development to include providing applicable employee education and assist in the department succession planning.Assist in the update and maintenance of the documentation of all accounting policies, processes and procedures. Review processes for continued improvements and efficiencies.Accounting and Financial ReportingAssist in the preparation of all Company reporting including monthly, quarterly and year-end financial statements, variance analysis, cash flow statements and other analytical and financial reportsProduce ad hoc reports as requested by managementResponsible for maintaining the general ledger chart of accounts and account trees in YardiAssist in verifying all journal entries and transactions are posted for monthly/quarterly/year-end closingPrepare and review account analyses, schedules, reconciliations, and journal entries as requiredAdminister the general ledger reconciliation systemAssist in the implementation of new Tax laws and GAAP accounting pronouncements.Provide support and assist with annual Company audits and tax returns.Cash Management and ForecastingPerform daily/weekly cash management duties and tasksPrepare and update weekly/monthly cash forecast reports and monitor the cash needs for all companiesResponsible for recording and maintaining appropriate lease designations and recovery calculations in accordance with Tax laws.Private Non-profit OrganizationResponsible for the non-profit's accounting records, including accounting processes, financial statements, schedules, reconciliations, inquiries, audit and tax return schedules, and other financial reports.Shareholder AccountingResponsible for end-to-end Shareholder accounting cycle including distributions, maintenance, accounting processes, reconciliation and reportingQUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTSEducation/TrainingMinimum: Bachelor's degree in Accounting Preferred:CPA certification. ExperienceMinimum: 7 years progressive experience in public and/or private accounting Supervisory or leadership experiencePreferred:Experience in commercial real estate or property management accountingExperience with Yardi or other real estate applicationsSkills/KnowledgeMinimum: Thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).Technical research skills and application of accounting principles.Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.Intermediate to advanced experience with Excel, and other Microsoft applicationsIntermediate to advanced knowledge of major general ledger accounting software packages.Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.Preferred: Knowledge of IRS tax pronouncements, rulings, and interpretive guidanceFactors for Success in the Position:Must be able to prioritize tasks and effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously.Ability to work independently and as part of a team and take on new tasks/projects with high level of difficulty.Must be able to work with minimal guidance and take ownership of work product.
