Transportation DepartmentBus Monitor/CDL NOT REQUIREDPOSITION TITLE: Transportation Safety Assistants (Bus Monitors)SITE: District WideREPORTS TO: Transportation Supervisor and Director of Student ServicesEDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIRED:High School DiplomaMust be able to successfully complete a medical examinationMay be required to successfully complete a physical performance evaluation, meeting standards set forth by the School Bus & Traffic Safety Section of the NC Division of Motor Vehicles and the Schools Transportation DepartmentExcellent interpersonal and communication skills and positive role model both professionally and personally TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 Months SALARY: Per NC State Salary Schedule plus local supplementPERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:Assist students to move to their assigned seated locationMaintains order and discipline of students assigned to the school bus in accordance with the Schools Board Policies pertaining to discipline and School Code of ConductRestrain students in Child Safety Restraint System as required by the IEP/504 PlanAssists with loading and unloading the school bus; secure student's personal equipment, assists students with special needs; operates wheelchair lifts; secures wheelchair; assists children from wheelchairs to seats; assists children in wheelchairs in getting to and from loading areaAssist in evacuating students during an emergency or evacuation drillMaintain confidentiality of each individual student's informationCommunicate appropriate information to parents and other school team membersMonitor student's behaviors and implement students' individual behavior plans as developed by school staffUnderstand how the bus ride impacts students with special needsComplies with federal, state and local laws, rules and regulationsComplies with School Board Policies and rules set forth by the school's transportation departmentParticipates in training and workshops and performs other duties as may be assigned KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Ability to meet and maintain legal and physical requirements for North Carolina School Bus Certification and local rulesAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels (i.e., administrators, parents, students, and the general public)Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situationsAbility to earn the respect of students of all ages and act sensitively to their needsAbility to perform medium work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to ten pounds of force constantly to move objectsAbility to work with Special Needs Students and Pre-schoolers
