Senior Accountant, Statutory Accounting

In short, We Enable Possibility℠.Position SummaryThis individual will be responsible for numerous activities within the Department with a primary focus on the MidCorp and Entertainment business as well as have opportunities to liaise with various other business units and supporting departments.This role offers the opportunity for the individual to grow and develop within the Finance Department. The position will provide exposure to the Company’s various divisions and operations and provide insight into how the business is managed. This individual will have a high level of interaction with other members of the finance teams throughout the organization as well as interaction with other support teams. Based in the Northeast, this position reports to the AVP of Statutory Accounting. The ideal candidate has strong oral and written communication skills, an analytical mindset, experience in financial reporting and the ability to multitask to effectively manage their time across various roles and responsibilities.Responsibilities And AccountabilitiesResponsible for preparation of NAIC and state regulatory filings for those insurance entities related to the MidCorp and Entertainment business and meeting strict reporting deadlinesPrepare and book Statutory journal entriesWork with various departments to obtain required data for statutory filings while developing strong relationshipsInteract with various levels of management to obtain understanding of processes, risks, and controlsProvide executable recommendations that improve operations and finance functionsAssist with projects and initiatives within the DepartmentRequired Skills And AbilitiesAbility to evaluate processes to identify opportunities for improvementCritical thinking and robust analytical and documentation skillsExtensive understanding of Statutory Accounting PrinciplesKnowledge of property & casualty insurance operationsStrong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skillsWillingness to proactively collaborate and share information with other members of the team and the broader Finance groupCapability to function in a team environment while assuming increased responsibilities within a dynamic and growing organizationExceptional work ethic, integrity, and the ability to work autonomously while effectively managing expectationsStrong Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to use complex formulas to manipulate large volume of dataExperience with Cognos, Alteryx, Workday, Sovos/Wings, GAIN Compliance and One Stream a plusEducation/ExperienceBachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration or Finance3-5 years of accounting or finance experience with a property and casualty insurance organizationStatutory accounting knowledge including preparation of annual statements and supplementsFor individuals assigned or hired to work in the location(s) indicated below, the base salary range is provided. Range is as of the time of posting. Position is incentive eligible.$80,000 - $108,000/yearTotal individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs. The above pay range may be modified in the future.
