Job Description
POSITION: Principal Data Scientist, Biosensing PURPOSE OF JOBThe Principal Data Scientist will oversee development of novel algorithms and AI/ML methods to bridgedensely collected digital measures from wearable sensor devices to multimodal systems. This role willfocus on creating edge- and cloud-based algorithmic pipelines for biomedical signal processing andtranslating research findings into practical, production-ready solutions to empower users of the Vivalinkplatform.Projects will involve establishing methodologies for building and implementing machine learning modelsusing multi-modal data sets, and extracting the features from raw data that correlate to measures ofinterest. In addition to modeling, development will include software tools and scripts at scale to supportdata analysis and interpretation.MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe principal data scientist will apply biomedical knowledge and data science to develop newalgorithm-based products and features. Responsibilities include:● Model Development: Design, build, and optimize machine learning models (including supervised,unsupervised, reinforcement, and deep learning) to extract and apply insights from digital healthdata.● Algorithm Design: Establish methodologies for building and implementing machine learningmodels using multi-modal data sets and design novel algorithms or adapt research methods forpractical applications.● Data & Optimization: Collect, clean, and preprocess large datasets for model training. Extractfeatures from raw data and debug/optimize models for better accuracy and efficiency usingcloud-based services.● Production & Engineering: Translate research into production-ready solutions. Design, implement,review, document, and validate algorithmic component software.● Infrastructure: Improve infrastructure and tooling, including algorithmic pipelines, test frameworks,and CI/CD pipelines.● Collaboration: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including clinical, product, and engineeringstakeholders, to deliver practical, integrated tools.● Communication: Effectively present and discuss findings with colleagues and communicatecomplex technical concepts to diverse audiences.● Support & Validation: Provide production support, troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, anddrive the release and monitoring of components. Assist in pursuing appropriate regulatoryauthorizations or performing clinical validations.Key Skills● Engineering skillset including signal processing, with practical experience working with dense timeseries data.● Experience with biomedical algorithms or digital measures (e.g., ECG, Continuous Vitals, EEG,Actigraphy). Familiarity with wearable and smart sensing technologies.● Experience applying machine learning methodologies in the digital health, healthtech, or medtechspace.● Proficiency in Python and experience with modern machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow,PyTorch, Scikit-learn).● Knowledge of data processing tools (e.g., Pandas, NumPy) and experience using statisticalcomputer languages for data manipulation.● Understanding of software development best practices, including testing, CI/CD, agilemethodologies, and Git-based workflows.● Experience with validation methodologies, including the design of experimental studies andstatistical testing. Experience in Class II medical devices or software-as-a-medical-device.● Strong foundation in statistical analysis.● Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) and knowledge of dataarchitecture.● Excellent written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.● Ability to transition projects to product development for commercialization.EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS● Education: An advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in a quantitative discipline such as ComputerScience, Data Science, Statistics, Biomedical Informatics, or a related field.● Experience:○ 5+ years of relevant industry experience (medtech, healthtech, digital health)○ 5+ years of experience developing and applying advanced machine learning and AI techniquesto clinical, biomedical, or similarly complex data.○ 5+ years of experience with Python development.Company DescriptionVivalinkCampbell, CACompanySilicon Valley-based Vivalink (www.vivalnk.com) is an innovative connected healthcare devices company in its growth stage.
