This leader drives a coherent regional strategy to accelerate outcomes for elementary students with exceptionalities in mathematics.In close partnership with Special Education and Math leaders across the region, the Director ensures alignment toward shared goals and high-quality instructional practices. This role builds the capacity of school-based leaders, including Math Deans and Directors of Student Support Services, through targeted coaching focused on co-taught classrooms and small-group intervention.The Director designs and leads high-impact, data-driven professional development for leaders and teachers, ensuring that instructional practices are responsive to student needs and grounded in KIPP NYC’s commitment to equity, inclusion, and the belief in the limitless potential of every student.Reporting to the Senior Director, Math, the Director plays a key role in shaping regional strategy, strengthening math instructional systems for students with exceptionalities, and ensuring that every student is known, challenged, and supported to achieve at the highest levels.This is a full-time position with a hybrid schedule, requiring a minimum of three in-person days per week based out of our KIPP NYC Midtown Manhattan office. The role also includes travel to KIPP NYC campuses across the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Manhattan. The cadence and frequency of school visits will be determined by your leadership team.Duties and Responsibilities:General responsibilities include (but are not limited to):Instructional Vision & ImplementationDefine and lead a clear, equity-centered vision for math instruction for students with exceptionalities across all KIPP NYC elementary schoolsEnsure alignment with KIPP NYC’s broader academic strategy and commitment for driving outcomes in math. Partner with TLS to drive consistent implementation of high-quality practices across ICT classrooms, small group instruction, and intervention settingsCurriculum, Assessment & Data-Driven InstructionEnsure effective implementation of core curriculum (e.g., Eureka Squared) with appropriate scaffolds and differentiationDevelop and refine systems for progress monitoring, assessment, and data analysisUse data (iReady, internal assessments) to identify trends and drive targeted instructional responsesBuild tools and systems that enable schools to act quickly and effectively on student dataCoaching & Leader DevelopmentCoach DS3s, Deans, and instructional leaders to strengthen math instruction and intervention practicesBuild leader capacity to support inclusive classrooms and high-impact intervention modelsConduct frequent school visits, providing clear, actionable feedback tied to student outcomesModel strong instructional practices and problem-solving structuresIntervention Systems & MTSSDesign and scale a coherent vision for math intervention, including pre-teach, re-teach, and targeted remediationEnsure interventions are tightly aligned to core instruction and accelerate access to grade-level contentSupport schools in implementing strong Tier 2 and Tier 3 systemsProfessional DevelopmentDesign and facilitate high-impact, practice-based professional learning for leaders and teachersBuild network-wide expertise in special education math, differentiation, and intervention strategiesPartner with Teaching & Learning to ensure alignment across PD experiencesSpecial Education Systems & ComplianceEnsure students receive services aligned to IEPs while maintaining a strong focus on instructional quality and outcomesPartner with compliance and behavioral teams to ensure systems are both legally sound and student-centeredPromote consistent, equitable practices across schoolsCross-Functional CollaborationCollaborate with TLS, Data & Assessment, and school leadership teams to align math and student support strategiesBuild network-wide expertise in special education math, differentiation, and intervention strategiesStrengthen alignment across talent, instruction, and student support systemsQualificationsBachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Special Education, math education, or related field requiredNew York State certification in Special Education strongly preferredMinimum 5 years of experience teaching students with exceptionalitiesMinimum 3 years of experience leading teams and coaching adultsDeep knowledge of math instruction, content, and intervention strategiesExperience with curriculum implementation (Eureka Squared) strongly preferredDemonstrated success in raising achievement for historically underserved studentsStrong data analysis skills and ability to translate data into actionExperience leading professional development for adult learnersExcellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skillsAbility to navigate complex systems and drive results across multiple schoolsDeep commitment to KIPP NYC’s mission and belief in the limitless potential of all studentsStrong alignment with KIPP’s values, including grit, joy, and a commitment to equityAbility to lead with both empathy and accountability in a fast-paced, dynamic environmentAdditional InformationKIPP NYC offers a salary ranging from $115,360–$144,200. Salary ranges at KIPP NYC are standardized based on role level and role function.
