Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic

Job Description
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will work independently to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair equipment in both field and shop environments. This position involves advanced failure analysis and repair of electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, electronic, and computer-controlled systems. The successful candidate will also help develop, implement and maintain preventative maintenance schedules to maximize equipment uptime and reliability. Responsible for sourcing and ordering required parts, with follow-through to ensure parts delivery so equipment is repaired promptly.
Key Responsibilities
Perform advanced diagnostics and repairs on Sandvik, Ingersoll-Rand, Komatsu, CAT and John Deere equipment or similar equipment (Preferred).
Troubleshoot complex mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and electronic systems
Conduct on-site field service as well as in-shop repairs
Remove, repair, rebuild or replace, and install damaged or worn components
Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists, cranes, and hand tools
Operate and inspect machinery to identify defects and verify repairs
Test equipment after repair or overhaul to ensure correctly repaired and that it is operating safely and efficiently
Perform routine service including cleaning, lubrication, and preventative maintenance
Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, blueprints, and diagnostic data
Utilize computerized diagnostic and calibration tools
Inspect parts for wear, fatigue, or failure indicators
Maintain accurate service documentation and equipment maintenance files.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the General Manager
Requirements & Qualifications
Experience with the specified equipment manufacturers is strongly preferred and will be given priority consideration.
Minimum 8 years diesel mechanic and heavy equipment repair experience (required)
Fabrication and welding skills
Ability to operate heavy equipment for diagnostic purposes
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Compliance with OSHA, MSHA, and company safety standards
Valid Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) is required
Ability to lift/move at least 75 lbs and work overtime as needed
Limited out of town travel required
Must pass pre-employment screening requirements
Employee provides standard hand tools (specialty tools, service truck, and crane provided by employer)
Must be reliable and responsible, demonstrate a strong work ethic, and be willing to work extended hours as needed
Must satisfy all safe driving requirements and complete a pre-employment driving skills test.
