Safety Clerk
DescriptionPosition SummaryPosition reports to the facility Safety Manager. The ideal candidate must have a general understanding of industrial health and safety in manufacturing, be able to work independently (supervision as needed), and demonstrate skills needed to perform essential job functions.The safety clerk position is designed to give the individual a different perspective on health and safety concerns in food manufacturing. It is intended to help the employee gain the basic knowledge and skills required to become a safety professional in agribusiness and food manufacturing. As a safety clerk you will participate with departmental functions, engage employees, and gain a hands-on experience in industrial health and safety.Position ResponsibilitiesCoordinates personnel protective equipment inventory and disbursement of safety related equipment. Assists in incident investigations and follow up of corrective action. Supports HS team in conducting safety audits and reviews. Developing, implementing, and enforcing ofi health and safety policy, procedures, and standards. Develop machine and equipment operating procedures, including start-up, shutdown and Lockout/Tagout procedures. Perform routine inspections to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local levelsConduct periodic inspections of scheduled requirements, reporting any deficienciesIssue permits for high-risk tasks (confined space, hot-work, etc.)Perform stand-by monitoring and observation of specified activity (fire watch, attendant, etc.)Log and maintain employee files, including training, medical and incident records. Offer support to various departments, as appropriate. Assist department head with functions related to incident investigation, risk analysis, accident prevention, workplace conditions, etc. Perform other duties as assigned. Work with vendors to find solutions to site specific safety concernsHelp with safety projects around facilityOrder/receive thru SAP systemPerform monthly safety trainingsIssue, keep track of, and maintain employee lockersHelp with safety events as neededWilling to complete OSHA 30 trainingHelp with Risk Assessment procedure and developmentPerform Machine Guarding auditsPerform other duties as assigned. Position RequirementsMinimum education required: High school diploma, or GED equivalentHave completed at least six (6) months probationary period, unless otherwise specified. Health and safety educational background, or other related field of experienceExcellent attendance recordStrong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skillsAbility to interact with people of different levels of the organizationOutstanding work ethicExcellent teamwork skills, along with ability to work independentlyEffective organizational skillsProficient with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and OutlookReliable transportationMaintain integrity, honesty, and privacy regarding personal employee information.
