Provides daily guidance to campers and assistance with activities and program planning. The person in this position must be capable of functioning as a team member with other Recreation and Parks staff. Provides supervision of camp. Work is performed under supervision of the Day Camp Director.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.Implements scheduled activities with camp participants, as assigned by Day Camp Director.Plans daily guidance of children in camp.Provides assistance to other workers and participates with children.Plans activities for campers and helps supervise camp activities.Assists other departmental staff in program implementation as needed.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITITESEffective oral communication.Ability to follow instructions to meet the needs of camp participants and program activities.Ability to provide instruction and monitor activities of young children.Ability to get along with staff, co-workers, and members of general public.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSMINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:Experience working with children 6-12 years old in a recreational setting.Knowledge of First Aid and CPR.Must be 18 years or older.Experience interacting with children with physical and/or intellectual disabilities is a plus.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force to constantly move objects on a regular and recurring basis.Must be able to perform basic life functions of stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, and hearing.UNAVOIDABLE HAZARDS (WORK ENVIRONMENT):Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.None.AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT COMPLIANCEThe City of Goldsboro is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
