Integration Engineer — Serial/Embedded Middleware (Cash Processing Hardware)
[OPEN FOR CANDIDATES WORLDWIDE]Role OverviewWe are on the hunt for a skilled Senior Device Integration Engineer to join the development of SecureFlow Connect, a local Windows service designed to seamlessly connect commercial banknote counters and sorters to our cash-logistics cloud platform. The primary challenge involves establishing robust communication with cash-processing hardware over RS-232, USB-to-serial, and TCP/IP connections, and translating vendor-specific outputs into a standardized event model. Our target manufacturers include industry leaders such as Cummins Allison/CPI, Giesecke+Devrient, Glory, and Cassida.ResponsibilitiesEstablish and troubleshoot serial/COM, USB, and network communications between Windows workstations and cash-counting hardware.Analyze and determine message framing, command/response pairs, transaction boundaries, ACK behavior, and error states utilizing tools like serial monitors, logic analyzers, and packet capture.Decode completed count transactions into structured data, including denominations, quantities, totals, rejects, suspect notes, device status, and timestamps.Develop a modular adapter architecture to facilitate the addition of new manufacturers without redesigning the middleware.Build and enhance the SecureFlow Connect Windows service focusing on connection monitoring, retries, buffering, error recovery, diagnostics, and secure transmission to our API.Create device simulators and test utilities to streamline integration work, even in the absence of physical hardware.Required SkillsExtensive experience with RS-232/RS-485/UART and Windows COM-port programming.Proficiency in binary protocol parsing and message framing.Expertise in USB device integration and TCP/IP socket programming.Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++, C#, Python, or Rust.Experience with Windows services/local agents and hardware abstraction layers.Proven track record of reverse-engineering or characterizing poorly documented device protocols.Nice to HaveExperience using logic analyzers (e.g., Saleae), Wireshark, and serial protocol analyzers.Familiarity with hardware-in-the-loop testing and integration of POS/ATM/banking/industrial equipment.Experience with multi-manufacturer middleware.Direct experience with Cummins Allison, CPI, G+D, Glory, or Cassida is exceptional but not required.Note: This role is not suitable for those primarily focused on full-stack or application development, as it requires expertise in bridging the gap between physical hardware and software.
