The Benefits Department supports our 18,000 + booksellers in our retail stores across the country, as well as in our warehouses and home offices with the administration of employee benefit plans, including Medical and Dental, Life Insurance, Flexible Spending Account (FSA), 401(k), Long Term Disability, Short Term Disability, and other Leaves of Absence (LOA).Each Benefits Administrator manages the administration of one or more benefit plans. This role is responsible for Leave of Absence administration (LOA), including Family & Medical Leave (FMLA), Military Leave, Personal Leave, Short-Term Disability and Workers’ Compensation. You will work directly with booksellers to provide the best service with the understanding that personal attention is a priority, which is why all LOA administration is done within the Benefits Department.The Benefits team is part of a larger HR Team that includes the HR Service Center, Payroll, Compensation, Recruiting, and HR Technology. More information can be received by the recruiter or Human Resources.An employee in this position can expect an annual salary between $75,000 - $85,000 depending on experience, seniority, geographic locations, and other factors permitted by law.This is a hybrid role and requires 2-3 days/ week in our Westbury, NY office.What You Do Administer benefits and track employees on leaves of absence so that we can guide employees through the LOA process from start to finish. Daily administrative tasks including appropriate benefit billing for unpaid leaves, entering payroll, reviewing medical documentation, and creating FMLA notices. Maintain contact with employees on leave and keep managers updated as needed. Establish strong partnerships with HR partners in the field, Distribution Center, and Home Office locations to keep them informed and work together to support our employees. Assist with and provide guidance for accommodation and employee relation situations by engaging with employees and managers to find solutions that work for both.Knowledge & Experience A four-year degree, preferably with a human resources-related concentration, or equivalent experience. Knowledge and understanding of FMLA and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance, as well as general LOA administration. Strong customer service skills and enjoys working with people and values them. Well-organized and manages time efficiently. Strong listening skills with the ability to solve problems timely. Communicate effectively, collaboratively, and comfortably through with others. Flexible and can adapt to an ever-changing, fast-paced environment. Strong reasoning and analytic skills. Knowledge of PeopleSoft/Oracle HRM a plus.
