CNC Lathe Machinist
Job Title: CNC Lathe Machinist Location: 3911 13th Ave N Birmingham AL Hours: 6:00a.m-4:30p.m. or 4:30p.m. to 2:30a.m. Monday through Thursday (occasional overtime) Position Summary Steward Machine is seeking an experienced CNC Lathe Machinist who will be responsible for setting up, programming, and operating CNC lathes to produce precision parts according to engineering drawings and specifications. This position requires strong blueprint reading skills, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain tight tolerances in a job shop environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Set up and operate CNC lathe machines to produce precision components Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work instructions Select and install appropriate tooling, inserts, and fixtures Troubleshoot CNC programs (G-code) as needed Perform first‐piece inspections and in‐process quality checks Maintain dimensional accuracy within specified tolerances Measure parts using micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, thread gauges, and other precision instruments Adjust machine offsets and tooling to maintain quality standards Perform routine machine maintenance and keep equipment clean Document production, inspection results, and any non‐conformances Follow all safety policies and procedures Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED (technical training preferred) 2+ years of CNC lathe setup and operation experience (or equivalent) Strong understanding of G‐code programming Proficient in reading blueprints Experience holding tight tolerances (±.002" or tighter if required) Ability to use precision measuring instruments accurately Strong math skills and mechanical aptitude Preferred Qualifications Experience with live tooling and multi‐axis CNC lathes Familiarity with Fanuc, Haas, or similar controls Experience in a job shop or heavy fabrication environment Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods Ability to lift up to 50 lbs Frequent bending, reaching, and manual dexterity Ability to work in a manufacturing environment (noise, coolant, metal chips) Work Environment Industrial machine shop environment May require overtime and occasional weekend work based on production demands #J-18808-Ljbffr
