Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) - General Dentistry
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) to join our general dentistry practice. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in dental assisting, with experience in various specialties including prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry. This role involves providing chairside assistance, patient care, and supporting the clinical team to ensure efficient and high-quality dental services. Knowledge of EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, and Epic is essential, along with a solid understanding of HIPAA regulations and infection control protocols. The EFDA will play a vital role in delivering exceptional patient experiences while maintaining compliance with all clinical standards.
Duties
Assist the dentist during a wide range of procedures including restorations, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry.
Prepare treatment rooms and sterilize instruments following aseptic techniques to ensure infection control.
Take and develop X-rays and medical imaging, including 3D scans when necessary.
Record vital signs and medical history accurately within electronic health records (EHR) systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic.
Manage medical documentation and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality.
Provide chairside assistance using four-handed dentistry techniques to enhance efficiency.
Educate patients on dental procedures, post-treatment care, and oral health maintenance.
Maintain accurate medical records and assist with medical coding for billing purposes.
Support the dental reception team by managing patient flow and scheduling appointments as needed.
Stay current with advances in dental technology, including the use of 3D scanners and other imaging tools.
Uphold high standards of infection control and aseptic technique throughout all clinical activities.
Requirements
Valid Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) certification or license.
Proven experience in general dentistry with familiarity in prosthodontics, endodontics, pediatrics, and medical imaging.
Proficiency in EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic is highly desirable.
Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and infection control protocols.
Experience with chairside assisting, four-handed dentistry, vital signs collection, X-ray procedures, and medical documentation.
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills for patient education and team collaboration.
Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy is maintained at all times.
Prior experience working in a dental clinic setting is preferred but not mandatory; relevant internships are also valued. Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
