Private Learning Program LeaderLocation: Miami, FL (In-person)Type: Part-time contract role (8–12 hours/week)Compensation: Competitive compensation based on experience, contract positionAbout usWe are a married couple with two girls, ages 15 and 13. We want your help creating and running a private learning program that challenges the girls to become confident leaders.Both girls are good students at conventional schools and are involved in sports and student clubs. One likes to bake, read, and run. The other likes softball, fashion, and talking with friends. They are both very social and have lots of friends. So far, we have been supplementing their education with ad hoc tutoring and activities. For example, we currently spend most Sundays from 10:30 am to 4 pm teaching the girls whatever they want to learn. Recent topics include: When is it a bad idea to go to college? What happened in Plato’s cave of shadows? How do people get rich now?We’d like to work with you to create a life-changing learning experience. The type of learning ambitious kids wish they had. A modern version of Socrates.About youThis is not a traditional tutoring role.We are looking for someone who loves learning, has a contagious personality, and genuinely wants to inspire young people to create positive change in the world.The ideal candidate is smart, organized, creative, and inspiring. You know how to make learning memorable and engaging. Talking about math and programming gets you excited. You can debate the merits of both capitalism and communism. You know what made Ben Franklin such a great writer. And you understand why Italians forgot the stuff they remembered in the Renaissance.If there are subjects outside your expertise, you are comfortable helping structure the program and sourcing additional instructors or specialists when needed.This is a dream role for someone who believes education should expand how young people think about themselves and what they can do.ResponsibilitiesDesign a learning program in 1-month terms covering the following topics:Math: Counting to calculus.Learning: Researching, reading, writing, editing, and teaching topics you care about.Persuading: Speaking, listening, and debating both peers and adults.Programming: Building software that solves problems.Observing: Studying and being around exceptional people.Conquering: Having fun doing scary things well.Execute the program in a way that is both engaging and has measurable results: What did they learn? How did it improve their ability to lead? How could it have been better?Get feedback and improve.ResultsWhat success looks like by the end of the first month:You create a curriculum and learning plan that we are all excited about.Girls love it. “This is the best teacher I’ve ever had.”Grades stay high.Girls learn new stuff and publish what they learn both online and in person.Girls set ambitious weekly goals and achieve them.You love it. “This is the best teaching I’ve ever done.”RequirementsPersonality: Naturally engaging, energetic, and personable.Resourceful: Smart, organized, and proactive. You know what needs to get done, and do it. You don’t need people telling you what to do.Experience: Experience mentoring, teaching, coaching, camp counseling, or leading students.
