Position Title: Mechanic Shop AssistantLocation: Icy Strait Point, Hoonah, AlaskaReports To: Service ManagerCategory: Seasonal | Non-ExemptPay Rate: $27.00 per hourPosition SummaryThe Mechanic Shop Assistant supports the Fleet and Maintenance team by helping maintain vehicles, equipment, and shop operations at Icy Strait Point. This hands-on role assists mechanics with daily servicing tasks, vehicle inspections, towing support, and maintaining a safe, clean, and organized shop environment.This position is ideal for someone who enjoys mechanical work, problem solving, and working outdoors in a fast-paced Alaska cruise season environment.Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesAssist mechanics with tire changes, oil changes, and routine vehicle servicing. Perform basic mechanical duties as assigned by the Fleet Service Coordinator or Service Manager. Support the opening and closing of the site for the cruise ship season. Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety of the mechanic shop and work areas. Service and assist with upkeep of all company vehicles and equipment. Conduct routine vehicle inspections and report mechanical issues or safety concerns. Maintain accurate maintenance records and vehicle service logs. Assist with vehicle towing and recovery operations when needed. Provide operational support to the Facilities Department as required. Follow all company safety procedures and operational standards. Perform other duties as assigned to support fleet and maintenance operations. Physical Requirements & Work EnvironmentAbility to lift up to 50 lbs regularly. Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Work performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Exposure to mechanical equipment, tools, noise, and industrial materials. Ability to work extended hours during peak cruise season. Comfortable working in a remote Alaska community. QualificationsBasic mechanical knowledge or previous shop experience preferred. Valid driver’s license required. Ability to safely operate vehicles and shop equipment. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
