This leadership opportunity invites your expertise.The RoleThe Director, Hospice plans, organizes, and directs the strategic and operational activities of Providence Hospice and Providence Home and Community Care.Serving as a key resource for the Portland Service Area, this role collaborates with Providence leaders to develop and maintain a system‑wide approach to end‑of‑life care, aligned with Service Area priorities, Service Line strategies, and industry trends.The Director leads complex, multi‑site hospice and home‑based care programs, ensuring high‑quality, coordinated care delivery across the continuum. This role balances clinical quality, patient experience, and financial performance, while fostering strong collaboration across departments, disciplines, and community partners.Key challenges include navigating service integration in a capitated payment environment, coordinating cross‑departmental efforts, managing competing priorities across stakeholders, maintaining alignment across multiple sites, and balancing quality and financial outcomes in hospice and palliative care delivery.What You’ll DoStrategic Leadership & Program DevelopmentIdentify opportunities to improve end‑of‑life care across Providence Service Areas.Lead planning and implementation of hospice programs within Home and Community Services, including expansion into new markets.Participate in strategic planning and budget development with Business and Clinical Operations and Hospice/Palliative Care leadership .Operational & Financial ManagementProvide administrative leadership and oversight of all Hospice programs and services.Collaborate with operations, finance, revenue cycle, and accounting teams to develop and improve systems, reporting, and performance outcomes.Support development of payer contracts in collaboration with contracting leadership, including scope of services, pricing, utilization conditions, and evaluation.Care Coordination & Clinical IntegrationLead coordination of care across Hospice and Palliative Care programs within the healthcare continuum.Collaborate closely with Medical Directors on clinical and organizational priorities.Ensure services align with Providence policies, care standards, and quality expectations.Quality, Compliance & Regulatory ReadinessEnsure compliance with Providence policies and all applicable accreditation, legal, and regulatory requirements.Participate in performance improvement and quality initiatives across hospice and home services.Maintain readiness for regulatory survey and accreditation standards.Workforce Leadership & DevelopmentLead staff and management performance across hospice programs.Develop staff through orientation, training, and ongoing education.Foster strong working relationships across the organization.Community Engagement & RepresentationPromote Providence Hospice and Home Services within the community.Represent Hospice programs with government agencies, legislators, and professional organizations.Support development of partnerships that strengthen community‑based care delivery.Technology & InnovationPlan and guide implementation of technology enhancements supporting operational and clinical practice improvements.QualificationsEducation & CredentialsBachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Healthcare, Human Services, or Business; or equivalent combination of education and experienceMaster’s Degree in Business, Nursing, or related health field (preferred)Required upon hire: National Provider BLS – American Heart Association (Vendor Managed)Required upon hire: Background check compliance per Providence Health & Services policy #302Preferred upon hire: Clinical LicenseExperience & ExpertiseMinimum of 4 years of progressively responsible healthcare leadership experience10 or more years of hospice-related experience (preferred)Experience with community advisory and/or governance (preferred)Knowledge of healthcare delivery systems and hospice operationsKnowledge of financial planning, human resources, marketing, and organizational practices in hospice programsAbility to develop and maintain relationships with diverse healthcare audiencesAbility to travel efficientlyDriving may be required as part of this role. Final compensation will be determined based on qualifications, experience, organizational compensation alignment, and the approved hiring department budget for the position.
