WORKING FOREMAN
Position Summary
The Working Foreman is a hands-on leader responsible for daily production, quality, safety, and workflow in a small fabrication and metal rolling shop. The role actively performs rolling, fabrication, fitting, and welding while directing a 2–3 person team to meet customer requirements and ±1/8” tolerances.

Owner / General Manager
Supervisory Responsibility
Direct supervision of 2–3 shop employees including roll operators, fabricators, and helpers.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Set up and operate plate and section rolling equipment
- Perform fabrication, fitting, and welding operations
- Read and interpret blueprints, rolling callouts, and weld symbols
- Verify material grade, thickness, and dimensions
- Inspect first-article and in-process work for ±1/8” tolerance compliance
- Assign daily work and adjust priorities as needed
- Train and guide employees on rolling and fabrication techniques
- Enforce shop safety rules and PPE requirements
- Reduce scrap, rework, and downtime
- Coordinate directly with ownership and customers when required
Quality Responsibility
Responsible for ensuring all parts meet customer specifications and ±1/8” tolerances unless otherwise specified. Has authority to stop work and correct quality issues immediately.
Safety Responsibility
Enforces safe operation of rolling equipment, welding processes, and material handling. Maintains clean and organized work areas and corrects unsafe conditions immediately.
Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ years metal fabrication experience
- Strong plate and/or structural rolling knowledge
- Welding proficiency (MIG/TIG/Stick as applicable)
- Blueprint and weld symbol interpretation
- Ability to lead and train a small team
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in a fabrication shop environment with exposure to heat, noise, and welding fumes.
Authority
May reassign labor, stop work for safety or quality concerns, approve minor process changes, and recommend disciplinary action to ownership.
Pay: $27.00 - $40.00 per hour
