This position provides landscape care, janitorial services, equipment operation, and facility repairs to ensure safe, functional, and well-maintained recreation areas throughout the season.Park Maintenance Workers operate hand tools, power equipment, and light-to-heavy machinery while assisting with irrigation repairs, construction projects, turf maintenance, and special event preparation. The role requires strong work ethic, attention to safety, and the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions while supporting a collaborative team environment.This is a 9.25-month seasonal, full-time, job-attached position with required weekend shift work between April and October and is represented by Teamsters Local #2.Priority screening of applications will begin on Monday, May 18, 2026. Essential FunctionsProvide landscape maintenance for Park & Recreation grounds, lands, trails, right-of-way, medians, and facilities, using various methods and tools, including hand and small power tools, chainsaws, trimmers, edging tools, blowers, mowers, etc.Maintain asphalt, gravel trails, pathways, and turf grass by sweeping, garbage removal, seeding, fertilizing, aerating, top dressing, watering, mowing, etc.Provide janitorial services throughout Park & Recreation facilities, grounds, etc., including cleaning restrooms, picnic shelters, buildings, storage areas, and picking up litter/garbage.Perform a variety of minor routine maintenance and repairs throughout Park & Recreation facilities, pools, splash decks, athletic fields, dugouts, and courts, including park fixtures, benches, fences, painting, marking layouts for various athletic events, removing/repairing vandalism damage, and identifying/repairing safety hazards; install and repair signs.Coordinate daily tasks and projects with Park Attendants, volunteers, and other partners.Provide support to volunteer projects, special events, and various programs by preparing fields, courts, and safety equipment set up/tear down according to competitive standards and MJTCD codes.Maintain trees, shrubs, annuals, perennials, and ornamental grasses through propagation, watering, weeding, and fertilizing.Perform routine cleaning, maintenance and inventory of parts, equipment, and vehicles.Operate various moderate to heavy construction equipment and vehicles, including tractors, skid steer loaders, front end loaders, utility trucks, truck and trailer combinations, and flatbed/dump trucks.Provide written reports and tracking sheets.Assist with various construction, conservation lands, recreation facility and arborist projects.Provide support with snow and ice removal using various tools and equipment.Perform various scheduled deferred maintenance projects including irrigation renovation/repair, carpentry, welding, plumbing, electrical, concrete, and building repair.Other duties as assigned, based on training and qualifications. Knowledge, Skills And AbilitiesKnowledge of and ability to promote safety considerations, City safety policies, OSHA/MUTCD and ANSI standards and guidelines related to park maintenance and construction.Skill in following oral and written instructions while working independently with minimum supervision.Skill in communicating, in person and writing, with the proven ability to establish and maintain positive effective working relationships with diverse individuals.Ability to operate vehicles, small power equipment, hand tools, and light to heavy equipment in a safe and effective manner.Ability to identify and implement risk management techniques to reduce exposure to injury, damage, and liability.Ability to read, comprehend and write incident reports and other operation reports and documentation.Ability to learn and follow City and departmental policies, procedures, and practices.Knowledge of principles and practices of construction and maintenance projects, including recordkeeping, inventories, techniques, operation procedures for vehicles and equipment, and working in the right-of-way and medians.Knowledge of and ability to learn turf, trees, shrubs, flowers, trails, native soils, and general landscaping maintenance procedures, including automatic underground irrigation installation, repair, and controller programming.Knowledge of various trade work, including plumbing, carpentry, electrical, welding and/or concrete.Ability to learn the operating and maintenance procedures for parks, sports fields, swimming pools and other recreational facilities.Working ConditionsPosition requires the ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. or less.Duties are frequently performed under conditions where inclement weather, noise, heat, dampness or cold are unavoidable.Work environment may involve occasional exposure to unavoidable seasonal weather conditions, occupational hazards, biohazards, blood borne pathogens, sharps, herbicides, and physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.Urban Forestry: Duties may require climbing trees with ropes and saddles and/or the use aerial lifts.All PositionsQualifications and Additional Application MaterialsAny combination of training and experience equivalent to one (1) year of maintenance, light equipment experience, or another relevant field appropriate for the specific position.
