School Principal JobA school principal's job involves leading daily operations, overseeing curriculum development, and supervising staff, while fostering a positive, safe learning environment that supports academic success. Key duties include managing staff evaluations, budgeting, setting standards, handling discipline, and reporting on performance.Under the direction of the CEO, President, and Superintendent, the Principal manages the school's operations and educational programs, including supervising teachers and other staff and evaluating and pursuing related programs. The principal's role is to provide strategic direction for the school system, develop a standardized curriculum, assess teaching methods, monitor student achievement, encourage parent involvement, administer the budget, hire and evaluate staff, and oversee facilities.The principal must be a strategic thinker with strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, as well as enthusiasm and credibility to create and sustain instructional momentum across the district's curriculum and instruction. The principal oversees staff development opportunities that address staff's diverse learning needs related to academic programming. The principal also serves on the District's Instructional Leadership Team.Essential functions include supervising classroom instructional practices, planning, organizing, and directing school activities, establishing and maintaining an effective learning climate, working in cooperation with the Superintendent, establishing guidelines and fostering positive incentives for student behavior, initiating, designing, and implementing programs to meet the school's specific needs, keeping the Superintendent informed of the school's activities and issues, communicating regularly with parents, establishing a professional rapport with students and staff, displaying the highest ethical and professional behavior, serving as a role model for students, coordinating and facilitating staff development training, and performing other duties as assigned or required.Key responsibilities include providing instructional leadership, setting academic goals, and driving school improvement; developing, implementing, and evaluating academic programs; supervising, evaluating, hiring, and providing professional development for teachers and support staff; ensuring a safe, inclusive environment; managing student discipline; communicating with parents, community members, and the school board; and ensuring adherence to laws/regulations.Core skills include strong leadership, decision-making, and strategic thinking; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; budget management and organizational abilities; and the ability to foster a positive school culture and collaborate effectively.Required qualifications and skills include a proven track record of supervising and mentoring employees to high performance; being highly organized with strong project management skills; having the tenacity to meet organizational and departmental objectives; the ability to manage projects on interrelated timelines; the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and community; the ability to communicate clearly and concisely in written and oral form; the ability to perform duties in full compliance with all district requirements and the Board of Directors; and a professional presence and service orientation.Required education, certification, and experience include a Bachelor's Degree required (master's degree preferred), Principal Certification, five years' experience as a classroom teacher, three years of administrative or supervisory experience, and experience preparing and managing budgets.Essential qualifications include a Bachelor's degree, experience in school leadership/administration, and a Master's in education/leadership or a valid state educator/principal certification.
