Part-Time Lifeguard

This position is responsible for the physical safety and general maintenance of the Hopewell Community Center pool.Monitors activity of pool patrons, assists swimmers in need, and provides first aid when necessaryEnforces pool rules and regulations to maintain a safe and orderly environmentAssistswithavarietyofaquaticprograms,includingswimminglessons,swimmingclinics,andspecial eventsKeeps pool deck, surrounding areas, shower facilities, and pool equipment clean and orderlyProvides high-quality customer serviceAssists with maintaining a inventory of equipment, supplies, and pool chemicalsParticipates in training and development activities for certification maintenanceResponsible for opening and closing the pool area of the Hopewell Community CenterAssists with other recreational programs throughout the department as neededAssist with the organization and implementation of special events coordinated by the Department of Recreation and Parks and other city departments; may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and in times of emergency (activation of the city’s Emergency Operations Center).Minimum Education and Experience:High school diploma/GED and previous lifeguard experience preferred but not requiredLicenses And/or CertificationsAmerican Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR, and First Aid certifications requiredKnowledgeKnowledge of water safety rules, general pool policies, and Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR practices and techniquesGeneral knowledge of pool cleaning and maintenance practicesSkillsSwimming, communication, customer service and teaching skillsAbilitiesPhysical ability to perform rescues and assist disabled personsAbility to take quick and appropriate action under stressful conditionsAbility to read, write, and communicate effectively both orally and in writingAbility to work successfully in a team environmentWork Environment:Work is primarily performed indoors but is exposed to temperature changes and/or extreme noise, odors, heights, depths and/or dust.
