Shirley Parsons is partnered with a leading renewables client to identify experienced Safety Managers to support multiple Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across California. This is an excellent opportunity for safety professionals with construction and energy project experience who are passionate about supporting the growth of clean energy infrastructure.Location(s): Fresno & Hayward (project-based; local candidates preferred)Project Type: Battery Energy Storage (BESS) / RenewablesStart Date: ASAPDuration: Contract (with potential for extension)Key Responsibilities:Lead and manage all on-site safety operations across battery storage construction projectsServe as the primary point of contact for all safety-related matters on sitePartner with Project Managers, Superintendents, and subcontractors to drive safety accountabilityConduct daily field safety walks, audits, and inspections to identify hazards and ensure complianceDevelop, implement, and continuously improve site-specific safety programs, policies, and proceduresReview and approve Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Method Statements, and Permits to WorkMonitor high-risk activities including electrical work, energized systems, confined space entry, lifting operations, and work at heightsEnsure proper lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures are followed for battery storage systemsOversee contractor onboarding, orientations, and site-specific safety trainingFacilitate daily toolbox talks, pre-task planning meetings, and safety briefingsTrack and report safety metrics, KPIs, and leading indicators to internal and client stakeholdersLead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementationMaintain accurate safety documentation, logs, and compliance recordsEnsure compliance with OSHA regulations, local/state requirements, and client safety standardsSupport emergency preparedness planning, drills, and response coordinationPromote and reinforce a proactive, behavior-based safety culture across all trades on siteQualifications:Proven safety experience in construction, renewables, or energy projects (BESS experience strongly preferred)Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety practicesCHST certification preferredOSHA 500 certification preferredExperience managing safety on multi-trade, fast-paced construction sitesExcellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skillsAbility to influence teams and drive a positive safety culture in the field
