Position Title: Systems Engineering Manager, SRE & DevOpsLocation: HOUSTON, TXFLSA Class: EXEMPTResponsible to: Director of Software EngineeringPosition Summary: Manager of Systems Engineering to lead a small, high-impact DevOps/SRE team. This is a split role — you'll split your time between hands-on infrastructure work and growing a team of 3-5 engineers. You'll set technical direction for reliability and infrastructure while building a healthy, high-performing team culture.Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesLead, mentor, and grow a team of 3-5 DevOps/SRE engineersContribute hands-on to infrastructure design, tooling, and incident response alongside your teamSet technical direction for cloud infrastructure, on-prem Linux environments, virtualization, deployment pipelines, and reliability practicesDrive adoption of SLI/SLO frameworks and operational maturity across the engineering organizationPartner with engineering leadership and product teams on capacity planning, roadmap prioritization, and production readinessOwn team processes — sprint planning, on-call rotations, postmortem culture, and knowledge sharingHire and onboard new team members as the team growsBalance technical debt reduction with feature delivery and reliability investmentsRepresent the infrastructure team in cross-functional planning and incident escalationsOther Requirements6+ years of experience in DevOps, SRE, or infrastructure engineering, with at least 1-2 years in a technical leadership or management capacityDemonstrated ability to manage, mentor, and develop engineersStrong hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure AWS preferred)Production experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and container orchestrationProficiency with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform or equivalent)Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelinesSolid understanding of monitoring, observability, and alerting systems (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or similar)Strong Linux systems administration background (Ubuntu, RHEL/CentOS, or similar)Experience with virtualization platforms including VM provisioning, storage, networking, and cluster managementStrong communication skills — able to translate infrastructure concerns into business impact for non-technical stakeholdersExperience with incident management, postmortems, and on-call processesNice To HaveExperience scaling a team through a period of growthBackground in platform engineering or internal developer experience initiativesExperience with budgeting and cost optimization for cloud infrastructurePrior experience in a split role balancing IC work and managementThe above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees assigned to this classification.
