Head Carpenters for Touring Productions
Reports To
The Head Carpenter reports to the Production Manager and works closely with the Company Manager and Stage Manager.
Job Overview
The Head Carpenter is responsible for advancing with venues, loading in and out the show, ensuring the performances run safely, acting as the supervisor for the touring crew (between eight and sixteen people), and is ultimately the supervisor of the local provided labor crew of thirty-five to sixty people. This position is the supervisor of every member in all technical departments.
Responsibilities and Duties
Paperwork (Venue Advance)
Create documentation for the technical aspects of each venue stop on the route
Load In / Load Out
Oversee trucking
Time management
Problem solve and check in on all departments
Show Call
Run cues as designated during tech
Observe all scene changes for safety
Payroll
Tracks local and touring crew per the prevailing contract and reports to Company Management for payroll and settlement purposes
Staffing Recommendations
Work closely with Production Management to advise on hiring, firing, and disciplinary action of all touring crew members
Make best recommendation for open positions

NETworks crew members have the opportunity to work with a tight knit team to prep, load-in/out and run exciting Broadway tours throughout North America, while collaborating with the industry’s leading directors, choreographers and designers. All crew members work under IATSE contracts with benefits. Each tour varies in size, length and route and may include full week, split week and single night engagements. Touring experience is preferred but not required. NETworks offers tremendous growth potential for its crew members, and most have enjoyed continual employment for many years.
Pay for touring Head Carpenters is dependent on the IATSE qualification of each tour. Employees receive weekly salary plus per diem and benefits, including health and welfare. Our current rates (salary, excluding per diem) range from $1300-$1800/week, dependent on tour qualification.
