Amedisys Hospice is a community based hospice care agency licensed by the State of Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) and Medicare (CMS) and Accredited by Community Health Accreditation Program.Our goals are is to foster genuine personal connections that offer emotional, psychological and spiritual support by taking an active role in the interests that bring joy to our patients. This strong support system also extends to the patients families, providing them resources and support throughout this journey. The families we work with rate our care highly. 85% if the families said they would recommend hospice services to others and 84% rated overall patient care as "excellent" or "good.",Volunteers get to make their own schedule!Our Non-medical Hospice Direct Care Volunteer provides support to patients living with a terminal illness, in addition to their caregivers and family. Support is provided in a variety of ways, including companionship, socialization, and caregiver relief. There is no medical background needed - our Hospice volunteers do not interact with the patient in any medical or personal hygiene capacity (i.e., volunteers do not give baths, get the patient in/out of bed, or to/from the bathroom, give medication).Some examples of what a Direct Care Volunteer could doProvide companionshipSocialization and/or support to hospice patients and their families/caregiversReading to the patientPlaying gamesWriting letters to or on behalf of the patientAssisting with light household duties (watering plants, walking pets, washing dishes, emptying and taking out the garbage, etc.Volunteers make their own schedule!
