Upon successful completion of a 6-month coding apprenticeship, you will be transferred/promoted to a regular Coding position.These are 100% REMOTE positions. There are many opportunities for growth within this individual team as well as Banner Health Family. There are also opportunities for overtime with special projects from time to time. Our REMOTE CODERS are required to live in: AK, AR, AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, ND, NE, NM, NV, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WI & WY.Requirements for Apprentices:REQUIRES a Coding Credential from AHIMA or AAPC. Please provide member ID in questionnaire or upload member ID card in Attachments. Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) in an active status with American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) and/or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification. AHIMA Credentials Preferred (Facility coding position)A coding assessment will be given after each successful interview that will require coding books or access to an encoder. Experience in healthcare and/or revenue cycle is ideal. Equipment is provided by Banner when hired. Must have high speed internet & able to hard wire into internet. Learns to assign applicable ICD diagnoses and ICD & CPT procedure codes for all inpatient and outpatient encounters, following all written coding policies and procedures in accordance with Coding Clinic, CPT Assistant and all regulatory CMS compliance regulations. Works as a member of the HIMS team on a variety of assigned projects and tasks. Works under direct supervision under HIMS Coding Management and/or experienced staff. Minimum QualificationsHigh school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge and specialized formal training in medical record keeping principles and practices, anatomy, physiology, pathology, medical terminology, standard nomenclature, and classification of diagnoses and procedures.Requires at least one of the following: Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Professional Coder – Apprentice (CPC-A), Certified Coding Associate (CCA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or other equivalent coding certification through an accredited certificate program such as AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association) or American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).Must demonstrate basic knowledge of ICD/CPT coding principles and the recommended AHIMA coding competencies. Should be familiar with pharmacologic agents. Effective human relations skills are required for interacting with all levels of hospital staff, physicians, and other contacts.
