You Belong Here.Head of U.S. Environment, Health, & SafetyNew Bern, NC / Full-timeYour ResponsibilitiesThe Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Director for the U.S. leads the development, implementation and continuous improvement of companywide EHS programs to ensure a safe, compliant and sustainable workplace. This role drives regulatory compliance with all federal agencies and state/local requirements, minimizes occupational and environmental risks through hazard prevention, incident investigation and training, and fosters a proactive safety culture while managing EHS staff, audits and emergency response. Develop and execute the company-wide EHS strategy, goals, and metrics aligned with corporate objectives; report progress to executive leadership and the RNA Board as required. Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing EHS team; establish clear roles, KPIs, and professional development plans. Create and continuously improve policies, programs, and systems (e.g., OSHA compliance, Process Safety Management, NFPA, ISO 45001 alignment) to prevent injuries, reduce exposures, and minimize environmental impacts. Oversee process hazard analysis, risk assessments, machine safety reviews, and design reviews for new equipment and capital projects; ensure safety is integrated into project lifecycles. Lead complex incident investigations and enterprise root cause analysis; direct corrective action plans and monitor effectiveness to prevent recurrence. Direct enterprise emergency preparedness, business continuity, and crisis management planning; serve as a senior incident commander or advisor during major events. Manage regulatory relationships and represent the company with OSHA, EPA, state agencies, insurance carriers, and third-party auditors; ensure readiness for inspections and audits. Oversee contractor safety management and major vendor compliance programs, drive standards for contractor selection, pre-qualification, and field oversight. Drive data-driven EHS performance management—establish metrics, dashboards, benchmarking, and reporting cadence; use leading indicators to proactively reduce risk. Champion safety culture transformation initiatives include behavior-based safety, employee engagement, leadership accountability, and communications. Ensure effective training programs and competency frameworks are in place across the enterprise; sponsor development of localized training materials as needed. Collaborate with global and U.S. based colleagues to benchmark best practices, ideas, and opportunities. Partner with legal, HR, operations, engineering, environmental, and insurance teams on workplace investigations, framework of policies, workers’ compensation strategies, return-to-work programs, and continuous improvement opportunities. Lead/support EHS aspects of M&A due diligence and site integration. All other duties as required. Your profile Four-Year College Degree (Environmental Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, or similar field) – Required 10+ Years of Experience (Environmental Engineering in a Manufacturing setting) – Required Proven experience developing and leading enterprise-wide EHS strategy, including multi-site program implementation, performance metrics, and continuous improvement initiatives. Deep knowledge of federal OSHA regulations, state regulations, Process Safety Management (PSM), NFPA standards, ISO 45001, and other relevant consensus standards. Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills; ability to collaborate, professionally challenge the status quo, and influence at all organizational levels including executive leadership Demonstrated success improving safety indicators and driving safety culture transformation in a manufacturing environment. Travel: 30%Your Pay & BenefitsThe pay range posted for this position is based on the location noted in the posting title. Exact compensation offered may vary based on your specific skillset and work location.
