Capstone is seeking a Director of Energy Policy Research with deep expertise in electricity markets, power generation, and utilities policy. This senior role will lead the development of differentiated investment insights grounded in rigorous policy, regulatory, and market analysis across the U.S. power sector.The Director will play a central role in shaping Capstone's intellectual leadership in the energy transition, translating complex regulatory and legislative developments into actionable investment strategies for institutional investors. This individual will maintain high-level relationships with policymakers, regulators, industry leaders, and clients, and will contribute to expanding Capstone's presence as a trusted authority on U.S. electricity markets and grid policy.As a senior member of Capstone's energy research team, the Director will guide research priorities, mentor junior analysts, and collaborate across policy verticals to deliver integrated insights at the intersection of politics, regulation, and financial markets.Key ResponsibilitiesLead policy and regulatory analysis across electricity markets, utilities, power generation, and grid infrastructureDevelop differentiated, forward-looking investment theses informed by legislative, regulatory, and market developmentsServe as a senior thought leader for clients on the evolving U.S. energy and power policy landscapeBuild and maintain senior-level relationships with policymakers, regulators, industry executives, and institutional investorsPresent research insights directly to hedge funds, asset managers, and other institutional clientsMentor and oversee junior analysts, helping shape research output and analytical frameworksCollaborate across Capstone's sector teams to produce integrated policy analysis and cross-sector insightsRepresent Capstone in industry discussions, policy forums, and client engagementsProduce high-quality research reports, policy briefings, and investor presentationsQualifications and AttributesIdeal candidates will demonstrate:Exceptional analytical and strategic thinking capabilitiesA strong ability to synthesize complex policy developments into clear investment implicationsA track record of developing differentiated insights and thought leadershipExcellent communication skills, with the ability to engage senior clients and policymakersStrong leadership and mentorship capabilitiesEntrepreneurial mindset with the ability to independently drive research initiativesA deep passion for the intersection of policy, politics, and financial marketsEducation and Experience RequirementsBachelor's degree required; advanced degree strongly preferred (e.g., Public Policy, Economics, Finance, Energy Systems, or related fields)10+ years of experience in equity research, consulting, investment banking, government, regulatory bodies, or policy analysisSignificant expertise in electricity markets, power generation (renewable and conventional), grid regulation, and energy transition policyDemonstrated experience engaging with senior policymakers, regulators, and industry stakeholdersMust be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorshipDeep familiarity with regional transmission organizations (RTOs/ISOs), particularly PJMPreferred BackgroundExpertise in data center energy demand, large load tariffs, and utility regulatory frameworksExperience advising institutional investors or producing investment-oriented policy researchPrior leadership experience managing analysts or research teamsBased in or open to relocation to Washington, D.C., New York, or HoustonWe are an equal opportunity employer.
