In the community, TDOC supervises 79,000 offenders on probation, parole, or community corrections. The department operates 44 probation/parole offices in 13 districts across the state. The Tennessee Department of Correction operates safe and secure prisons and provides effective community supervision in order to enhance public safety.Job OverviewThe TDOC Special Agent in Charge assigned to the Apprehension and Enforcement Unit (AEU). The TDOC Special Agent position is assigned to the Office of Investigations and Conduct (OIC) Apprehension Enforcement Unit (AEU), which is responsible for the pursuit and apprehension of absconders under the jurisdiction of the Tennessee Department of Correction (TDOC). The Special Agent possesses statewide law enforcement authority to conduct both criminal and administrative investigations of offenses relative to or affecting the TDOC.Key Responsibilities The Special Agent in Charge duties include: Exercise effective supervision of assigned Special Agents. Ability to read and understand laws, regulations, police/correction literature and departmental rules, policies and procedures and to effectively utilize them in the field. Ability to identify training needs and set up training for staff. Ability to review reports for clarity and accuracy in a timely manner. Identify strengths and weaknesses of subordinate staff to maximize performance Oversee both criminal and administrative investigations. Make criminal arrests and serve outstanding criminal warrants and summons. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal, and other local, state, and federal law enforcement partners. All applicants must be a U.S. Citizen, 21 years of age, and possess a valid Tennessee driver's license at the time of hire. Applicants must successfully pass a structured interview, meet medical and psychological qualifications, and complete a background check. Applicants must be willing to and able to qualify with, carry, and use assigned weapons. Candidate must participate in pre-employment, random and all other drug and substance abuse testing as required by departmental policies and procedures. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and five (5) years of experience as a police officer, correction, or probation/parole officer. Experience performing or instructing in criminal investigation work in a government setting, law enforcement, professional criminal law, and/or similar related field may substitute for the required education on a year for year basis. Successful completion of a state or federal law enforcement academy. Prior supervisor experience.
