Organization Overview: The Goddard Riverside -Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center (Isaacs Center) is a non-profit, multi-service organization focusing primarily on the needs of children and low-income families, out-of-school and out-of-work youth and aging New Yorkers. We operate at community centers located in the neighborhoods of East Harlem and Yorkville, and seek to deliver programs that are impactful, innovative, and intergenerational.Position Summary: We are seeking a goal-oriented, energetic individual who can effectively engage with people from diverse backgrounds and learning abilities. The ideal candidate will create and maintain positive working relationships with program participants. The instructor must be a self-starter who is committed to the mission, values, and beliefs of the Goodard Riverside - Isaacs Community Center and the Education Workforce Development department.Schedule: Full-time 35 hours a weekSalary Range: $58,500-$65,047.04Candidates must have the required qualifications to be considered for the position. The salary offer will be based on the candidate’s number of years experience in the exact or comparable position and additional preferred qualifications will be taken into account.Roles, Responsibilities And Essential DutiesRoles, Responsibilities, and Essential DutiesPrimary DutiesUnder the supervision of the Academic Services Manager, the Instructors will be responsible for, but not limited to the following duties:Provide basic education in a creative and stimulating fashion for adults and out-of-school youth while creating a nurturing and supportive environmentEstablishes and embraces an environment that respects individuals from diverse backgroundsTeach, develop, and help prepare students to master GED subtest sections for Reasoning Through Language Arts (RLA) and Social Studies.Possess knowledge in teaching Google Classroom and Digital Literacy skills techniques in a positive and accountable learning environment for all Pre HSE/HSE participants.Prepare and facilitate lessons and instructional activities daily based on student interests, ability,English proficiency, and other factors in the classPlan classwork and homework assignments to support students’ understanding of course objectives and basic skills for literacyDevelop weekly class assessments to measure each student’s mastery level of benchmark skills and determine progress in the classReview progress with students throughout the cohort in individual meetings and discuss methods to help make improvementsMaintain an orderly classroom during instruction and other times by establishing procedures for students and expectations for behaviorResearch, evaluate and assess adult literacy issues appropriate to adult literacy programsPossesses strong time management & communication skillsMaintains student confidentiality regarding their educational, social, and emotional challengesUtilize positive youth development strategies to resolve behavioral challenges and celebrate youth achievementPossesses basic understanding of Microsoft Office suiteDevelop and facilitate workshops and other events to enhance confidence levelsSubmit reports as required, including monthly reports to the supervisorMaintain and input associated program data, such as attendance, case notes, grades, etc.Participate in pre-program and ongoing professional development opportunities and daily staff meetings in addition to formal feedback and coachingImplement all health and safety protocols as requiredPerform additional duties as assigned by manager and leadershipQualificationsMinimum Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field with relevant experience, MA/MS a plus.Minimum of 2 years of successful instruction/facilitation, preferably as teacher of Reading/EnglishLanguage Arts and/or Social Studies.Demonstrated successful engagement with an at-risk population.Experience with curriculum development, with a specific focus on thematic units of study.Superior organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.Working knowledge of the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) for the current GED Exam.Expertise in Common Core-aligned instruction.We are committed to building an inclusive workplace community grounded in respect for differences.
