Because at Solventum, we never stop solving for you.The Impact You’ll Make in this RoleAs a Senior Manager, R&D Design & Development – Chemical & Biological, you will lead and partner with highly skilled engineers and scientists to deliver innovative medical device solutions that improve patient outcomes. You will collaborate across global, cross-functional teams and play a critical role in shaping the health, rigor, and future readiness of our IP&SS new product development portfolio.R&D Leadership & Product DevelopmentLead and develop a high-performing team of Chemical and Biological R&D design engineers and scientists supporting the Vascular Access Solutions, Assurance & Monitoring Solutions, and Peri‑Operative Surgical Solutions portfolios.Reduce program risk and uncertainty early by clearly defining scope and product requirements, aligning design capability, resources, and timelines, and identifying new capabilities or capacity needs (internal or external).Drive the development of robust, reliable, and manufacturable component, subassembly, assembly, and system-level designs.Partner closely with IP&SS R&D Product Development to ensure effective extended‑team resource allocation and delivery of committed program milestones.Lead design controls, risk management, and documentation activities in compliance with medical device regulatory requirements.Oversee product characterization, verification, and validation testing to ensure functional performance, safety, and design input compliance.Continuously evaluate and mature designs to reduce cost, schedule, and technical risk while increasing confidence in business case achievement.Enable smooth technology transfer to Sustaining Engineering as products enter commercialization and continue to serve as a technical subject matter expert as needed.Portfolio Health, Strategy & InnovationEnsure the long-term vitality of the IP&SS new product portfolio through disciplined execution, technical rigor, and strategic foresight.Define and advance product and technology strategies that sustain competitive portfolios and incorporate feature, process, and technology improvements aligned to unmet customer and clinical needs.Contribute to organic ideation, feasibility studies, and early technology exploration.Support evaluation and due diligence activities for inorganic growth opportunities.People Leadership & CultureEstablish and communicate a clear vision, culture, and development focus for the team.Lead with a hands-on, player‑coach mindset, modeling accountability, technical excellence, and collaboration.Strengthen medical device design rigor while empowering teams, increasing engagement, and fostering ownership.Lead experienced professionals and specialists who operate with significant autonomy and technical judgment.Your Skills And ExpertiseTo set you up for success in this role from day one, Solventum requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:Bachelors Degree in an applicable technical fieldTen years of relevant experienceExperience in a regulated industry (medical devices preferred) utilizing design controls to design, develop, verify, validate, and commercialize new productsPrevious experience managing people, leading teams, and developing/managing budgetsIn addition to the above requirements, the following are also required:Expertise in project technical leadership with the ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneouslyExperience with and working knowledge of ISO9000, FDA and GMP requirements including product requirements, specification documents, risk management files.Proficiency in MS Office applications (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint), strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to read and understand technical drawingsAdditional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:Strong working knowledge of processes and equipment common to medical device manufacturing; examples include additive manufacturing, machining, extrusion, injection molding, coating, adhesive and thermal bonding, die cutting, flat film converting, automated and semi-automated manufacturing equipment, etc.Masters degree in an applicable technical or business field preferredDemonstrated ability to evaluate, mentor, and grow engineering talentExcellent analytical and problem-solving skills, familiarity with statistical techniques, experience with scientific methods and Design of ExperimentsAbility to understand and resolve complex technical and business system issuesWork location: Eagan, MNHybrid Eligible: On-site at least 3 days per week.Travel: May include up to 15% domestic/international travelRelocation Assistance: May be authorizedMust be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).Supporting Your Well-beingSolventum offers many programs to help you live your best life – both physically and financially. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant knowledge, training, skills, work location, and/or experience.
