General Laborer
Position Summary:
Entry-level hands-on role supporting metal recycling operations. Responsible for sorting, processing, and moving scrap metal safely and efficiently to meet production and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Sort and separate ferrous and non-ferrous metals by type and grade.
Inspect incoming materials for contaminants (plastic, wood, hazardous waste) and remove or report as needed.
Operate basic equipment: hand tools, pallet jacks, forklifts (if certified), shears, conveyors, balers.
Load and unload trucks and containers; stage materials for processing and shipment.
Assist with baling, cutting, and compacting operations.
Maintain clean, organized work areas; sweep, pick up scrap, and dispose of non-metal waste properly.
Perform routine equipment checks and report maintenance needs or safety hazards.
Follow company safety protocols, wear required PPE, and participate in safety meetings.
Accurately record weights, counts, and material types using scale or inventory systems.
Assist in special projects or temporary tasks as directed by supervisors.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED preferred but not required.
Prior experience in recycling, warehouse, construction, or industrial environments is a plus.
Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50–75 lbs regularly; heavier with assistance or equipment).
Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn equipment operation.
Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.
Good communication skills and dependable attendance.
Ability to pass drug screen and background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
Forklift certification or willingness to obtain.
Experience operating magnet cranes, shears, balers, or shredders.
Familiarity with OSHA safety standards and hazardous material handling.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
Frequent heavy lifting, bending, twisting, standing, and repetitive motions.
Exposure to noise, dust, dirt, and outdoor temperatures.
Must wear PPE (steel-toe boots, gloves, eye protection, ear protection, hard hat).
