Surgical technologist - transplant, organ recovery & perfusion
Job Description: The Intermountain Health Organ Procurement and Perfusion (IHOPP) Surgical Technician IV is a transplant specialty expert who supports organ recovery, preservation, and transport for the Intermountain Transplant Program. This role assists surgeons in the operating room, performs select first‐assist tasks within scope, and ensures accurate organ labeling, packaging, and documentation in compliance with OPTN policy.The position also supports machine preservation of organs, including setup, cannulation, monitoring, and care during hypothermic or normothermic perfusion. Advanced training and national certification in organ preservation/perfusion are required.As a senior technologist, this role demands strong surgical experience, deep anatomical knowledge, and excellent clinical judgment. The Surgical Technician IV also contributes to quality improvement and helps lead advancements within transplant surgery.What to Expect in This Role Frequent out-of-state travel , often via small aircraft with Intermountain Flight Heavy call requirements, including nights, weekends and holidays 36-40 scheduled hours per week , with a mix of days, nights, weekends, and holidays (specific scheduling details will be discussed during the interview).High flexibility and availability are essential due to the unpredictable nature of organ recovery and transplant operationsWhat We're Looking ForIn addition to meeting the minimum qualifications listed below, the ideal candidate holds a CCTC , CPTC , or CTP certification and brings specialized experience in transplant surgery , cardiac , vascular , trauma , and organ procurement organization (OPO) environments. S.Competent in Level III or IV Cases in high acuity specialty areas such as (Robotics, Neuro, CV, Trauma, Transplant, Reimplants, Plastics Craniofacial, Major abdominal General Surgery cases, Major ortho trauma) and/or facility case mix in Level II Trauma Facility or Quaternary Center.Able to take assigned specialty call in Level II Trauma Facility or Quaternary CenterMust be in good standing.Preferred QualificationsPreferred 2 years OR ExperiencePreferred 2 years OPO Surgical Recovery ExperienceActive National Certification as a Certified Surgical TechnologistVerify existing, or obtain either CCTC, CPTC, or CTP certifications related to the field of transplantationo Complete within 1 year of hire and maintain certificationPhysical RequirementsOngoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items.
