May require some direction or guidance from the Service Manager, Service Location Manager, or Shop Foreman.ResponsibilitiesPerforms diagnostics and repairs on John Deere equipment and technologyMentors Service Technician Trainees and Service TechniciansConducts or supports customer clinicsPerforms diagnostics and repairs in the field as requiredAccountable for billable time and assigned work ordersResponsible for complete and thorough documentation of diagnostics and repairs performed on work orders and on time submittal of informationMay participate in JDU Service Training programs required for the development of skills and knowledgeOperates and maintains vehicles, tools and equipment required to perform job responsibilitiesMaintains a clean work area and performs work in a neat and orderly fashionFollows all safety rules and regulations in performing work assignmentsMaintains current knowledge of John Deere and competitive productsParticipation in monthly branch and company on-call schedules as needed.Additional duties as assigned Physical Requirements: Strength & LiftingFrequently lift, carry, push, and pull 50–75 lbs; occasionally up to 100 lbs with assistanceHandle heavy components such as tires, hydraulic parts, and engine componentsUse hoists, cranes, and lifting devices safelyMobility & Body PositioningRegularly required to:Stand and walk for extended periods (8–10+ hours/day)Bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl under equipmentClimb ladders, steps, and onto large machinery (tractors, combines, sprayers)Work in confined or awkward positions when performing repairsManual Dexterity & CoordinationOperate hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment with precisionMaintain steady hand-eye coordination for:Electrical diagnosticsHydraulic system repairsSmall component adjustmentsEndurance & StaminaSustain physical effort throughout long shiftsPerform repetitive motions such as:WrenchingLiftingTool useHandle peak-season overtime (planting/harvest periods)Work Environment ToleranceAbility to work in:Outdoor conditions (heat, cold, rain, mud, dust)Shop environments with noise, fumes, and moving equipmentExposure to:Oils, grease, fuel, and chemicalsVibration from machinery and toolsVision & Sensory RequirementsClose vision for detailed mechanical workAbility to:Read service manuals, schematics, and digital screensDistinguish colors (wiring, fluids, indicators)Hearing ability to diagnose engine and mechanical issuesSafety & Physical AwarenessMaintain balance and awareness around:Moving equipmentElevated surfacesHeavy machineryProper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):Safety glassesSteel-toe bootsGlovesHearing protectionTravel & Field Work (if applicable)Ability to:Drive service trucksTravel to customer locationsPerform repairs in field conditions (uneven terrain, remote sites)Experience, Education, Skills And KnowledgeExperience performing service repairs; demonstrated experience consistently meeting performance metrics preferredExperience performing repairs and maintenance using special tools and equipment following Technical Manual procedures on machines of the Technician’s specialtyExperience with the mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems used in off road, construction, lawn, or heavy equipmentExperience operating vehicles, tools, and equipment for diagnostic purposesExperience with basic computer functions; experience using Service ADVISOR™ or other computer based diagnostic repair tools preferredExperience working cooperatively in a team environmentExperience communicating effectively verbally and in writingMust have an adequate toolset to perform job responsibilitiesHigh School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience required; Associates degree preferredValid DOT Medical Card or be to obtain one. Be able to maintain certification.Valid driver’s license requiredThe pay range for this position is $20-$38 per hour based on experience#INDHP
