Referral Coordinator

Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Referral Coordinator to join our medical office team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in managing patient referrals, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations, and facilitating communication between patients, healthcare providers, and insurance companies. This position requires a strong understanding of medical terminology, coding practices, and insurance verification processes. Experience in referral processing required. Duties - Manage the referral process for patients by coordinating appointments with specialists and ensuring timely communication. - Verify patient insurance coverage and eligibility for referrals, including managed care plans. - Maintain accurate records of referrals and follow up on outstanding requests to ensure continuity of care. - Utilize ICD-10 and ICD-9 coding systems to document patient diagnoses accurately. - Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations regarding patient information confidentiality. - Collaborate with healthcare providers to facilitate smooth transitions of care for patients. - Assist in resolving any issues related to referrals or insurance claims as they arise. - Provide exceptional customer service to patients, addressing their questions and concerns regarding the referral process. Requirements - Previous experience in a medical office setting is required. - Strong knowledge of medical terminology and coding practices (ICD-10 and ICD-9). - Familiarity with insurance verification processes and managed care systems. - Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail. - Ability to communicate effectively with patients, healthcare professionals, and insurance representatives. - Proficient in using EHR epic preferred but not required. - Understanding of HIPAA regulations and commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality. - Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
