Working in collaboration with organizational leadership, clinical leaders, and support departments, this position promotes a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors through evidence-based infection prevention practices, surveillance, auditing, education, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance. The IPC Coordinator supports key program activities including healthcare-associated infection surveillance, data tracking, sterilization and high-level disinfection oversight, competency support, environment of care rounding, and accreditation readiness, and serves as a resource to departments across primary care, urgent care, specialty care, dental, ambulatory surgery, sterile processing, laboratory, radiology, environmental services, and Employee Health.Adhere to the TCC Ch' eghwtsen' model of service and guiding principle which requires providing timely and effective service along with the ability to interact with others in a way that inspires trust and demonstrates respect, compassion and empathy.Essential FunctionsThis list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by incumbent(s).Representative DutiesUnder general supervision of the IPC Program Manager the incumbent will: Collaborate with the IPC Program Manager and organizational leadership to implement the annual Infection Prevention and Control Plan, priorities, and program goals. Maintain current knowledge of evidence-based infection prevention and control practices, including standard precautions, transmission-based precautions, sterilization and high-level disinfection standards, and ambulatory care infection prevention requirements. Perform surveillance for healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), surgical site infections, and other assigned indicators; maintain related databases, dashboards, and reports; and assist with analysis and trending of findings. Conduct routine infection prevention rounds, hand hygiene observations, and environmental rounds to monitor compliance with infection prevention practices and identify opportunities for improvement. Audit key IPC indicators, including but not limited to: Hand hygiene Personal protective equipment (PPE) use Environmental cleaning and disinfection Reprocessing of reusable medical devices Sterilization practices High-level disinfection processes Surgical site infection prevention measures Conduct adenosine triphosphate (ATP) monitoring and other assigned validation activities to assess environmental cleanliness and disinfection practices and communicate findings to leaders and staff. Conduct audits and competency assessments related to sterilization and high-level disinfection processes in collaboration with clinic leadership and department leaders. Maintain the Sterilization Toolkit and related resources; develop and update leader and staff training tools; and support regular compliance monitoring for all staff and sites performing sterilization or high-level disinfection. Lead or support quarterly sterilization check-ins with clinic leaders and staff at subregional clinics and other assigned locations to promote standardization, competency, and compliance. Review infection prevention-related incident reports and event reporting submissions; collaborate with the IPC Program Manager and other partners on follow up actions, education, and improvement planning. Collaborate with Employee Health to review and monitor sharps injuries, bloodborne pathogen exposure events, communicable disease concerns, and related trends; assist with prevention strategies and staff education. Serve as an infection prevention resource to staff, providers, supervisors, and managers by responding to questions and providing consultation on infection prevention standards, practices, and regulatory requirements. Provide or support infection prevention education, training, and competency validation for new staff, annual education, just-in-time coaching, and targeted remediation based on audit findings, trends, or identified risks. Support development, review, revision, and implementation of infection prevention and control policies, procedures, guidelines, and tools to ensure alignment with current evidence-based practice and regulatory requirements.
