Artificial Intelligence Engineer
AI Engineer (LLMs / Agents / RAG) New York (Remote considered) $150,000 – $200,000Private credit is a $1 trillion market running on manual processes, spreadsheets, and institutional inertia. We're the team fixing that — and we're looking for an AI Engineer to help build the intelligent agents at the core of it.This is an early-stage startup founded by ex-Google engineers, already live with some of the world's largest financial services firms. You won't be building demos or prototypes. You'll be shipping production AI systems that are actively automating complex workflows at major institutions — and you'll own a significant piece of how those systems are designed. What you'll be doingYou'll design and build LLM-powered agentic systems from scratch — RAG pipelines, orchestration logic, tool use, prompt design, and evaluation frameworks. You'll work directly with customers to understand real workflow pain points and translate them into AI that ties directly to business outcomes. You'll own production infrastructure, architect backend systems and APIs, and lead the rigorous experimentation cycles that separate reliable AI from fragile AI.This is as much systems engineering as it is AI — performance, latency, cost, observability, and reliability are all yours to solve. What we're looking forStrong Python and production engineering fundamentals are non-negotiable. You'll need hands-on experience shipping LLM agents and RAG systems in the real world — LangChain, LlamaIndex, PydanticAI or similar. Cloud infrastructure experience (GCP preferred). An instinct for system architecture, and the communication skills to operate in high-stakes, ambiguous environments. 5–10 years of software engineering experience.Big tech background with startup experience? That's exactly the profile. Why it's worth your attentionYou'd be joining as one of the earliest engineers — working directly with the founders, owning key technical decisions, and shaping the engineering culture from the ground up. Strong comp, meaningful equity, and the rare combination of real traction and real upside. If you want to spend the next few years on something that actually matters, let's talk.
