Communications Tech I - Security, Surveillance and Access Focus
General SummaryThis Communications Technician will focus mainly on Nex-Tech’s Security, Surveillance, and Access Control services, but may also install, maintain, and troubleshoot residential and business Layer 1 distribution and transport plant, Layer 2 transport and access, customer premise equipment, including fiber optics and wireless equipment. Our technicians install and maintain all equipment, as well as providing excellent customer service on every visit. Technicians will also restore buildings and grounds disrupted by service work.Essential Job FunctionsInstall and maintain various telecommunications systems including DSL, FTTH, POTS, IPTV/CATV, Wireless, Security/Surveillance Systems, Small Phone Systems, Hosted PBX, Enterprise Session Border Controller, voicemail paging systems, and Network wiring.Troubleshoot issues related to telecommunications systems and equipment, including fault finding, inside wire and equipment problems, modem issues, digital boxes, and coax at the premise.Locate and mark fiber plant routes and perform necessary splicing and testing.Keep abreast of industry developments through training sessions and staying updated on current technologies.Collaborate with team members and accept direction from supervisors positively. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to read and interpret documents such as: maps, blue prints, staking sheets, work orders, operating and maintenance instruction manuals.Skill in analytical thinking and problem solving, identifying local and long distance service issues, resolving complex problems involving multiple vendors, and unusual customer applications.Knowledge of BICSI, RUS, and NEC codes and practices.Skill in operating and maintaining various testing, installation, and repair equipment.Technical Degree in Communication Technology or equivalent work experience.Must reside in Salina or have the ability to relocate.Must be able to perform site surveys and installations for all wireless internet technologies.Education And Experience Technical Degree in Communication Technology or the equivalent of two years related work experience. Wireless Internet installation experience beneficial. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Background Checks This position requires a background check be conducted during offer status.
