Anticipated Public Safety CTE InstructorDescription:The Public Safety Instructor prepares students with the knowledge, skills, and professional practices necessary for careers in law enforcement, fire services, emergency medical services, and related public safety fields. The instructor is responsible for delivering the Chapter 74 Public Safety frameworks and creating real-world, scenario-based learning experiences that reflect industry standards, legal foundations, and emergency response protocols. The program emphasizes constitutional law, emergency response, public safety systems, and ethical decision-making to prepare students for postsecondary education,training academies, and careers in public safety.Location: Everett High SchoolRequired Education/Experience:Licensed by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as a Vocational Technical Public Safety Teacher or licensed as a Criminal Justice teacher (or eligible to obtain licensure)Associate's degree or higher related to legal studies, criminal justice, public safety, emergency services, fire science, or a related fieldA minimum of 4 years of full-time employment experience directly related to public safety (e.g., legal, law enforcement, fire service, EMS, dispatch, corrections, military, or related field)Ability to document employment experience in accordance with DESE licensure requirements (including employer verification letters or self-employment documentation as applicable)Passing score on required licensure assessments, including:Relevant Vocational Technical written and performance testsCommunication & Literacy Skills Test (MTEL) or Vocational Technical Literacy Skills Test (VTLST)Preferred Education/Experience:Bachelor's degree or higher in legal studies, criminal justice, public safety, or a related fieldSEI EndorsementPrior experience in law enforcement, fire service, EMS, emergency management, or dispatchRelevant certifications (e.g., CPR/First Aid, BLS, Firefighter I/II, EMT, Incident Command System/NIMS)Experience working with youth or in an educational setting3 or more years of high school teaching experience in CTEExperience working in an urban public school settingBilingual or multilingual proficiencyDuties:Deliver curriculum aligned to MA DESE Public Safety frameworks, including criminal justice, emergency response, law enforcement procedures, and fire servicesTeach foundational concepts such as constitutional law, public safety systems, investigative procedures, and emergency response protocolsFacilitate hands-on, scenario-based learning (e.g., mock trials, emergency simulations, incident response activities)Prepare students for industry-recognized credentials (e.g., CPR/First Aid, OSHA, BLS)Integrate ethics, community engagement, and cultural competency into instructionSupport development of communication skills for emergency and public-facing situationsUse a variety of instructional strategies to engage students in active, applied learningDevelop lesson plans that incorporate real-world applications, simulations, and project-based learningAssess and document student progress and provide timely feedbackMaintain classroom equipment and ensure safe practices aligned to public safety standardsCollaborate with administration to develop and refine curriculum, scope & sequence, and program growthBuild partnerships with local police, fire departments, EMS agencies, and public safety organizationsSupport work-based learning opportunities, field experiences, and career explorationCreate a classroom environment that emphasizes professionalism, accountability, and teamworkMaintain accurate student records in alignment with district and state requirementsCommunicate effectively with students, families, and colleaguesParticipate in staff meetings, professional development, and program improvement effortsDevelop partnerships with industry professionals and serve as liaison to the Program Advisory Committee and attend two meetings per yearEnsure equitable access and support for all studentsCollaborate with school adjustment and guidance counselors to support students' social, emotional, and mental health needs.Incorporate social-emotional learning standards and curriculum that promote a sense of belonging, inclusion, self-confidence, team-building, and informed decision-making.Collaborate with special education leadership and teacher colleagues to review IEPs and ensure all accommodations are consistently and adequately delivered.Incorporate language activities that align with the WIDA Standards into content instruction, including listening, speaking, reading, and writing, to meet the needs of multilingual learners.Other duties as assigned by the Principal and Director of Career & Technical EducationSalary:Salary for this position will be based on the Everett Teachers Association Collective Bargaining Agreement. -SY 26-27 Pay Range - $65,178-$125,654.
