Assistant Preconstruction Manager

Overview In this role you will support the bid and estimating process, handling complex trades and self-perform work. You will coordinate with architects, subcontractors, and internal clients to develop accurate estimates and assemble bid packages. You’ll lead preconstruction activities on small projects and help refine assumptions during early design. This position offers the chance to influence project scope, pricing strategy, and value opportunities within a collaborative team. ResponsibilitiesAssist in pricing and bidding for construction projects, focusing on key/complex trade categoriesLead preconstruction and estimating activities on small projectsDocument assumptions during early-design estimating and apply to takeoffsClarify scope, materials, and schedule with architects/consultants and log clarificationsReview milestone documents for value alternatives and pricingParticipate in internal estimate review and support final presentation of estimates to ownersOrganize bid information post-bid for future referenceCoordinate and provide information/documents to subcontractorsPrepare subcontract scope exhibits and participate in hard bid/GMP budgeting by soliciting subcontractor bidsDevelop and maintain relationships with owners, subcontractors, vendors, and internal clientsStay current with estimating technology and techniquesDemonstrate basic conceptual estimating by interpolating dataBuild relationships within McCarthy and the broader industrySupport use of estimating tools and BIM-related software Key requirementsBachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or Engineering and/or minimum 3 years of equivalent experienceIn-depth knowledge of construction principles and processesProven experience managing complex work categories and/or preconstruction for small projectsAbility to synthesize cost data from various sources into a conceptual estimateExperience with subcontracts and self-perform workKnowledge of negotiated bids, hard bids, and GMP processesWorking knowledge of estimating tools such as OST, WinEst, Bluebeam and BIM softwareStrong math and analytical skillsAttention to detailSolid interpersonal and communication skillsSelf-starter with high motivationDemonstrates McCarthy core valuesInterpersonal communicationSelf-motivationAttention to detailOSTWinEstBluebeam
