Job DescriptionUnder the general supervision of the teacher, the teacher assistant will assist theclassroom teacher in the supervision and instruction of students. The teacher assistant isresponsible to help provide a well-organized, smoothly functional class environment in whichstudents can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.Essential Job FunctionsAssumes responsibility to assist the classroom teacherAssists in supervision and care of studentsAssists teacher in classroom care-giving routinesAssists the teacher in maintaining a safe physical environmentAssists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, outdoor play, Mass, as well as drop off and pick up times.Assists with supervision during field trips.Assists specials teachers with their classes (Art, PE, Music, etc.)Assists in classroom set up, clean up, and materials preparationAssists in arrangement, maintenance, cleanliness and security of the classroomAssists in food service and supervises children at all mealsEstablishes good rapport with childrenAssists the teacher to work with individuals and groups of studentsUtilizes respectful individual and responsive care-giving practices with studentsAssists with the implementation of health, emergency procedures and first aidImmediately reports witnessed accidents to supervisorAttends meetings and in-services as required by AdministrationCommunicates appropriately with parents and staff and refers all parent questions and concerns pertaining to students to the teacherDresses professionally as per the faculty handbook regulations for teachersTreats confidential information about students, staff, and school affairs in a professional and ethical mannerEstablishes and maintains cooperative, supportive and effective relationships with all school and parish personnelAssumes the duties of the teacher in the absence of the teacher
