Part-Time Faculty - Computer Science Instructor

Learn more About Shoreline AND Video Tour Our Campus!The Computer Science instructor is responsible for teaching Computer Science courses to first and second year transfer and professional-technical students. This primarily includes Introduction to Programming (Python), Computer Science I (Java), and Computer Science II (Java). A portion of the teaching assignment may be in the evening, online, and/or at off campus locations. In addition to teaching, this position may involve advising students, modifying curricula based on current technology and employment opportunities, research and theory in teaching areas, and performing related division/department and campus-wide professional responsibilities.REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:Masters' degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline from an accredited institutionExperience teaching or mentoring in Computer Science or related disciplineExperience supporting students or populations who have been historically underrepresented, minoritized, and/or economically or educationally disadvantagedKNOWLEDGE OF:* Microsoft Office programs, learning management systems, and other appropriate instructional technologies* Associated regulations and trendsSKILL IN:Imparting excitement and enthusiasm into the instruction of Computer ScienceExperience with or willingness to gain experience with teaching and developing coursework onlineFostering a climate of equity and belonging through multicultural awareness and responsivenessEffective oral/written communication with individuals at all levels inside and outside the CollegeIncorporating a variety of creative teaching methods to address the needs of a diverse group of learnersAdapting to a variety of teaching situations with students from diverse backgrounds/abilitiesDeveloping/modifying curriculum both collaboratively and independentlyWorking and interacting effectively with colleagues, staff, students, administrators and others of various cultural and socio-economic backgroundsPHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:The College is currently in mixed (both in-person and online instruction) operations, with the option for some assignments to completed in an online environment based on program or area needs. For remote (online) instruction, faculty will need to provide their own workspace and internet access, noting the College will provide technical equipment and support for online work needs. For on-campus in-person instruction, work is usually performed in a classroom/office space that requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time. Faculty typically use computers and media equipment in the work environment.TERM OF EMPLOYMENT/SALARY:This is a part-time, non-tenured, quarter-to-quarter assignment. Salary is dependent upon the number of contact hours for this assignment as provided in the agreement with the Shoreline Community College Federation of Teachers.
