Automation & Controls Engineer (Manufacturing)Position OverviewThe Automation & Controls Engineer provides technical support for multiple production lines to ensure efficient, safe, and high-quality manufacturing operations. This role focuses on maintaining and optimizing automation systems, improving production performance, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.Key ResponsibilitiesAutomation & ControlsModify, optimize, and maintain instrumentation and control systems, including:PLC programsHMI applicationsTroubleshoot and resolve issues related to:PLCs, HMIs, sensors, robots, and servo drivesEthernet and industrial communication networksPerform PLC programming using Allen-Bradley platforms (RSLogix5, RSLogix5000)Program and maintain variable frequency drives (PowerFlex series)Support SCADA systems (highly desired)Maintenance & ReliabilityMaintain high equipment reliability and uptime across production linesTroubleshoot electrical, control, and process equipment issuesManage calibration of plant instrumentationSupport maintenance teams with technical expertise and trainingDocumentation & ComplianceDevelop and maintain:As-built electrical, controls, and process drawingsControl system documentation and change control proceduresEnsure all plant modifications and installations comply with:Federal, State, and Local codesIndustry standards (NEC, OSHA, ISA, ANSI)Ensure adherence to:Personal safetyFood safetyProduct quality standardsContinuous ImprovementIdentify and implement process improvements to enhance:Production ratesEfficiency and yieldEquipment performanceChangeover timesAnalyze data to develop troubleshooting tools and optimize systemsParticipate in incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actionsCross-Functional CollaborationPartner with engineering, maintenance, and quality teamsSupport non-conformance investigations for finished products and raw materialsAssist in training maintenance and production personnelContribute to plant startups and new equipment installationsAdditional ResponsibilitiesProvide on-call support, including nights and weekends as neededAssist with project management and technical reportingPerform other related duties as assignedRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related fieldMinimum 3+ years of experience in automation and controls within a production environmentStrong knowledge of:PLC programming and troubleshootingIndustrial automation systemsManufacturing and maintenance processesProficiency with:Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skillsPreferred Qualifications5+ years of experience in automation and controlsExperience in manufacturing or food production environmentsExperience with SCADA systemsExperience supporting plant startups or line commissioningFamiliarity with:Allen-Bradley (MicroLogix, ControlLogix)Fanuc roboticsWonderwareTechnical SkillsPLC Programming (Allen-Bradley: RSLogix5, RSLogix5000)HMI & SCADA SystemsIndustrial Networks (Ethernet, DeviceNet, ControlNet)VFD Programming (PowerFlex)Robotics & Vision Systems (Fanuc preferred)Electrical Schematics & Blueprint ReadingInstrumentation & CalibrationCore CompetenciesSelf-motivated with strong initiative and accountabilityAbility to work collaboratively across all organizational levelsStrong leadership and mentoring capabilitiesEffective prioritization and multitasking skillsAnalytical thinking and data-driven decision-makingContinuous improvement mindsetWork Environment & ExpectationsManufacturing environment with hands-on system interactionOn-call support required (nights/weekends as needed)Fast-paced environment requiring flexibility and responsivenessAdditional RequirementsMust be authorized to work in the United States (no visa sponsorship available)No security clearance required
