Job SummaryAn industry-leading therapeutic discovery organization is seeking a highly skilled and execution-driven Scientist to join the BioAssay development team in South San Francisco, CA. This 100% onsite, laboratory-based role focuses on advancing small molecule drug discovery pipelines through the design, optimization, and scaling of sophisticated cell-based assays. The successful candidate will directly impact translation timelines by generating high-quality quantitative data that drives critical program decisions. This is an initial one-year contract with potential renewal for up to three years, designed for a bench-focused scientist who thrives on technical rigor and experimental problem-solving.location: South San Francisco, Californiajob type: Contractsalary: $38.00 - 42.16 per hourwork hours: 9 to 5education: DoctorateResponsibilitiesAssay Development & Optimization: Engineer and optimize high-throughput, cell-based bioassays utilizing quantitative RT-PCR (qRT-PCR) for precise mRNA expression and transcript quantification.High-Content Screening: Develop, validate, and execute complex cell biology assays leveraging immunofluorescent staining, high-content imaging (HCI) platforms, and advanced multiplexed image analysis.Lead Optimization Support: Conduct weekly small molecule compound testing and phenotypic screening campaigns to evaluate biological activity, target engagement, and pharmacological profiles.Cellular Architecture Maintenance: Manage and sustain diverse mammalian cell lines, ensuring robust quality control and standard operating procedures for all cell culture operations.Data Analytics & Cross-Functional Reporting: Synthesize complex datasets using advanced analysis platforms to clearly articulate experimental outcomes, mechanism-of-action insights, and technical recommendations to cross-functional discovery project teams.QualificationsRequired:Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Pharmacology, Biochemistry, or a related scientific discipline (or a Master's degree with a minimum of 2 years of industry research experience, or a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 4 years of industry research experience).Demonstrated mastery of mammalian cell culture techniques and cell-based bioassay development; applications lacking direct cell culture expertise will not be considered.Hands-on experience in high-throughput assay methodologies, specifically quantitative molecular biology techniques (qRT-PCR) and immunofluorescent staining.Proven technical depth in high-content imaging (HCI) instrumentation and image analysis software.Ability to deliver a one-hour scientific technical presentation demonstrating experimental problem-solving, research depth, and communication clarity during the interview process.Comfort operating in a dedicated, fast-paced, and execution-intensive laboratory environment, with a strong preference for bench work over management or publication-led paths.PreferredPrior experience in an industrial biotechnology or pharmaceutical discovery environment supporting small molecule lead optimization.Familiarity with laboratory automation, liquid handling systems, and high-throughput screening (HTS) workflows.Proficiency with advanced data visualization and analysis platforms, including Genedata Screener, TIBCO Spotfire, and GraphPad Prism.Postdoctoral research experience focused on functional genomic screens or phenotypic drug discovery.skills: Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), High-Throughput Screening (HTS), Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)Equal Opportunity Employer: Race, Color, Religion, Sex, Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, National Origin, Age, Genetic Information, Disability, Protected Veteran Status, or any other legally protected group status.At Randstad, we welcome people of all abilities and want to ensure that our hiring and interview process meets the needs of all applicants.
