For 45 years, BRC has turned brand and cultural stories into destinations built for lasting change, powered by Deep Story™ and guided by a creative philosophy called Magic with Heart: the belief that imagination and precision belong together, and that the best work moves hearts and moves numbers in equal measure. Our portfolio includes Johnnie Walker Experience on Princes Street, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Las Vegas Raiders Allegiant Stadium Tour, Great Wolf Lodge, and World Expo pavilions for nations and corporations across the globe, from Shanghai and Milan to Osaka 2025. Proudly independent, with more than 500 international awards, BRC remains the most trusted name in transformational experience design. Who You Are at BRC You are a rare kind of technical thinker: equally at home in the precision of a technologist and the instinct of a creative. You hold both the big picture and the fine detail at once, and you know how to lead a team through ambiguity without losing momentum. You don't default to convention. You ask whether there's a smarter, more story-serving approach. The best technical solutions you create are ones the audience may never consciously notice, because they are felt. You know how to harness technology as an emotional instrument; creating moments of wonder and awe that linger long after the visit. Magic, to you, is not a metaphor. It’s an outcome you design for. You are as comfortable in a design review as you are on a job site, and the people you work with know they can count on you in both. The Role As Technical Director, you lead the technical scope of world-class permanent experiences. You are the connective tissue between creative intent and built reality, working closely with Creative Leads, Designers, Producers, and Partners to ensure every system delivers what the story demands. This is a project-based position spanning Design and Production phases. You will be based in the Los Angeles area for most of the Design and Production, with consistent, intermittent on-site presence required during Installation. What You Will Do Technical Design Leadership• Lead the team in developing design and specifications for show technical systems across Audio, Video, Control, Lighting, Special Effects, and Show Action, always in service of the story. This includes new media, interactive, and generative technologies where they serve the narrative.• Drive creative technical problem-solving at every stage, proposing approaches that are innovative, buildable, and grounded in how the experience needs to land.• Contribute to design feasibility assessments and guide the transition from Concept through Design into Production-ready documentation.• Establish technology standards and maintain a consistent, well-documented workflow that supports the full project team.• Integrate technical systems with facility requirements and collaborate across scenic, show systems, media, and architecture disciplines.• Communicate story backed technical design portions of a project to the wider team. Vendor and Partner Management• Serve as the primary BRC point of contact for technical vendors as applicable, including AV and lighting designers, engineers, and integrators, special effects providers, show action suppliers, control systems specialists, and programmers.• Alongside project producer, manage vendor contract compliance through design, procurement, fabrication, shipping, and installation.• Work closely with the Production Design team to coordinate and document all Facility Impact requirements.• As applicable, define operational requirements for Show Action Equipment and coordinate cohesive show control system design with relevant vendors. Documentation and Coordination• Oversee, review, and maintain technical drawings and specifications to production standards, navigating AutoCAD, Revit, and related tools fluently.• Track and communicate RFIs, change-order conditions, field decisions, and punch-list items clearly and promptly.• Liaise directly with vendors, general contractors and architects on technical decisions that carry facility or structural implications, representing BRC’s creative and technical intent clearly. Ensure the timely exchange of technical packages and drawings across all parties where there is a technical impact. Production Planning• Estimate and support budget development for technical systems on assigned projects.• Work with the Producers and BRC leadership teams to anticipate risks, resolve cross-discipline conflicts, and keep the project on track.• Manage relevant vendors on-site during installation. Verify that what gets built matches approved drawings, specifications, and creative intent.• Support onsite commissioning, stakeholder walkthroughs, and system handover.• Participate in project and vendor schedule coordination, keeping all parties aligned on priorities, dependencies, and handoffs across disciplines. What You Bring • Degree (or equivalent experience) in Theatrical Design and Production, Technical Direction, Lighting Design, AV/IT Design, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.• 5+ years of experience in experiential design, themed entertainment, permanent installations, or a related field, with a track record of leading technical scope on complex, multi-system projects.• Comprehensive knowledge of AV, lighting, control, scenic, and/or media systems integration in physical, story-driven environments (a deeper understanding of particular disciplines over others is normal).• A bold technology-forward mindset: you actively follow emerging technologies – spatial computing, generative media, interactive and new media design – and understand how to apply them to physical, story-driven experiences. You see convergence as an opportunity, not a complication. • Experience leading Design documentation, including drawings and specifications, as the lead technical voice on a project.• Experience working in a coordinated BIM environment and construction management platforms (Autodesk Construction Cloud, Navisworks, Procore, etc.) is preferred.• A proven ability to think creatively within technical constraints, finding solutions that serve the story and not just the specification.• Project leadership: the ability to manage vendors, coordinate across disciplines, navigate change, and hold the technical vision without losing the collaborative spirit.• Comfortable and effective communicating with clients, vendors, internal teams, and executives.• Comfortable with ambiguity and complex problems; you bring clarity to both.• 3 to 5 days per week in studio at BRC’s Burbank, CA office is a strong preference. • Availability to travel and remain on-site during Installation as required by the project. Compensation and Benefits This is a project-based position with a salary range of $135,000–$150,000. BRC offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical coverage. BRC Imagination Arts is an equal opportunity employer committed to creating inclusive experiences in our work and in our workplace.
