Power Engineer (Transmission & Interconnection)Full-Time | Houston, TX (Hybrid)A rapidly growing energy infrastructure developer is seeking a Power Engineer to support transmission planning and interconnection efforts for large scale grid projects across the United States. The organization focuses on advancing grid reliability, resilience, and expansion through the development of new high-voltage transmission infrastructure.Role OverviewThe Transmission & Interconnection Engineer will support early stage development of greenfield transmission projects through technical analysis and system modeling. This role plays a key part in evaluating grid constraints, informing interconnection strategy, and shaping project feasibility through detailed transmission planning studies.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform transmission planning studies including power flow, contingency (N-1), short circuit, and voltage/reactive analyses.Identify system constraints and develop transmission upgrade solutions to address thermal, voltage, and stability issues.Support generator and load interconnection studies, including impact assessments and mitigation strategies.Contribute to long-range transmission planning using load forecasts, generation scenarios, and policy considerations.Prepare technical reports and documentation for internal teams, utilities, and regulatory stakeholders.Coordinate with cross-functional teams and external partners to align planning assumptions with real-world grid conditions.Maintain and update transmission system models to ensure accuracy across planning cases.Participate in technical discussions with utilities, ISOs/RTOs, and other industry stakeholders.Interpret planning criteria, interconnection requirements, and tariff frameworks relevant to transmission development.Provide technical input to support early-stage project decisions, including routing, sizing, and cost estimation.Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (power systems focus preferred).3–5 years of experience in transmission planning, interconnection, or related power systems work (advanced degree may substitute for experience).Experience with grid modeling and analysis tools such as PSS/E, PSLF, PowerWorld, or similar platforms.Strong understanding of transmission systems, grid operations, and planning methodologies.Ability to analyze complex technical problems and develop practical solutions in evolving project environments.Strong written and verbal communication skills, with ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.Self-starter comfortable working in fast-paced, ambiguous environments with shifting priorities.Preferred QualificationsFamiliarity with HVDC systems, substation design, and transmission line engineering concepts.Exposure to energy markets, ISO/RTO processes, and regulatory frameworks.Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or MBA.
