About the Role
The Estimator is responsible for developing accurate cost estimates for telecommunications infrastructure projects. This role supports bid and proposal efforts by reviewing drawings and specifications, performing material takeoffs, developing labor estimates, and coordinating with internal teams, suppliers, and subcontractors. The position requires strong technical knowledge of low voltage systems, the ability to identify scope gaps and risks, and the capability to assess constructability and cost impacts while supporting competitive and compliant project pricing. Success is measured by estimate accuracy, completeness of scope, bid support effectiveness, and a clean handoff to operations.
Key Responsibilities
Apply a strong understanding of low-voltage systems including fiber optic, copper cabling, pathway infrastructure, and rack and patching design to assigned projects
Utilize working knowledge of TIA EIA BICSI NEC and applicable industry standards when reviewing and supporting project documentation
Support projects involving data center architectures including core distribution and access environments and structured cabling topologies
Incorporate basic understanding of CCTV and security systems infrastructure into project reviews as applicable
Review and interpret drawings specifications RFIs scope documents and industry standards to support project requirements
Develop bills of materials and perform material takeoffs
Support estimating and project activities involving outside plant and inside plant cabling systems
Occasional field and site work required for surveys, existing conditions validation, and constructability reviews Develop complete bid packages including takeoffs, labor builds, vendor pricing, scope narratives, clarifications and exclusions, and risk notes
Partner with Sales, Project Management, and Engineering to produce compliant proposals and support final pricing reviews
Maintain and update pricing libraries, unit rates, and historical cost benchmarks
Interpret drawings and specifications, generate RFIs as needed, and validate scope requirements
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
Demonstrated experience building accurate estimates based on drawings, site conditions, specifications, and customer requirements
Experience developing detailed labor estimates considering difficulty, environmental conditions, and productivity factors
Experience with estimating templates or databases, takeoff tools, and building bills of materials and material takeoffs
Experience engaging suppliers and subcontractors to obtain accurate material and external labor pricing
Proven capability to identify scope gaps, risks, and value engineering alternatives
Working knowledge of pricing models including unit cost, fixed price, and time and materials
· Proficiency with estimating platforms and tools such as Excel, Bluebeam, or similar
· Experience producing formal proposal packages including pricing, clarifications, and scope narratives
· Strong written communication skills for RFI and RFP responses and internal documentation
·Experience presenting estimates to stakeholders and leadership
·Effective communication with sales, project management, procurement, and engineering teams
High attention to detail with experience developing complete and accurate bills of materials
Experience comparing competitive quotes and historical costs for accuracy
Strong time management skills supporting multiple bid deadlines
Experience tracking bid activity, win and loss metrics, and maintaining pricing libraries
Experience performing site surveys and documenting field conditions
Working knowledge of installation methods including pathways, ladders, containment, racks, and cabinets
Experience identifying constructability challenges and installation impacts
Understanding of commercial impacts including margin, overhead, and market competitiveness
Experience assessing subcontractor proposals for completeness and accuracy
Experience supporting change order development and cost adjustments after project award
Capability to sustain a demanding workload requiring consistent local travel for site assessments
Experience with OSP and ISP estimating preferred with the ability to identify construction impacts
Detail oriented with a proactive and accountable work approach
Collaborative team player
3-5 Years Estimator experience
Certifications
BICSI certifications such as RCDD, DCD, or TECH preferred
Manufacturer certifications including CommScope, Corning, Panduit, or Siemon preferred
