Natural areas stewardship includes habitat restoration, invasive species management, forest health work, trail maintenance, ecological monitoring, and volunteer support.The Natural Areas Crew Leader directs and coordinates field crews performing vegetation management, restoration, trail maintenance, and stewardship activities in City natural areas. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Parks Superintendent. This role provides lead direction but does not exercise formal supervisory authority.This position is represented by the Lake Oswego Municipal Employees' Association/ American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) and is subject to mandatory participation in electronic funds transfer (EFT)for payment of net wages (i.e., Direct Depositor PayCard).Key ResponsibilitiesOrganize, schedule, and oversee natural areas field work.Interpret work instructions and assign tasks to crew members.Identify materials, equipment, and staffing needs.Maintain work records ,reports, and requisitions.Model and enforce safety practices.Perform vegetation management, restoration, and trail maintenance.Support volunteer programs and public stewardship events.Collaborate with Urban Forestry and other divisions.Ideal Candidate:Experience in natural areas maintenance, restoration, and field operations.Knowledge of native/invasive plants and habitat restoration.Strong skills in leading crews and communicating effectively.Ability to make sound field decisions and work safely.Ability to read and understand maps, plans, drawings, orders and other documents as required.Education and Experience RequirementsA typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform in this position is with a High School diploma or G.E.D; and four years of experience in general landscape, maintenance, construction work or related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
