The Instructional Aide is responsible to help provide a well-organized, smoothly functional class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.Essential Job FunctionsAssumes responsibility to assist the classroom teacherAssists in supervision and care of studentsAssists teacher in classroom care-giving routinesAssists the teacher in maintaining a safe physical environmentAssists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, and outdoor play • Assists in classroom set up, clean up, and materials preparationAssists in arrangement, maintenance, cleanliness and security of the classroom (including toys and equipment)Assists in food service and supervises children at all meals: ? Receives food and set up snacks/lunch ? Maintains a clean environment for food service areaEstablishes good rapport with childrenAssists the teacher to work with individuals and groups of studentsUtilizes respectful individual and responsive care-giving practices with studentsThroughout class time actively engages children in meaningful learning activities and experiences • Appropriately assists children in bathroom procedures: ? Helping children to establish good habits of toileting and personal hygiene Assists with the implementation of health, emergency procedures and first aidImmediately reports witnessed accidents to supervisor: ? Prepares a written report stating date, time, nature of accident and action taken Attends meetings and in-services as required by DirectorWilling to become more knowledgeable of effective and appropriate care-giving practices utilized in early childhood careCommunicates appropriately with parents and staff and refers all parent questions and concerns pertaining to students to the teacherAssists parent volunteers helping in the classroomTreats confidential information about students, staff, and school affairs in a professional and ethical mannerEstablishes and maintains cooperative, supportive and effective relationships with all school and parish personnelAssumes the duties of the preschool teacher in the absence of the preschool teacherMust be punctual and on time for workPerforms other related duties as assigned and demonstrates ability to be flexible and carries out duties KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Catholics must be willing to make a public profession of faith. Non-Catholic must be willing to sign the Diocese of Phoenix Division of Education and Evangelization Profession of Faith form • Assists with indoor and outdoor recreational activitiesEffectively communicates with students, parents and staffCommunicates in English at a level sufficient for successful job performanceEffectively supervises and cares for students in their play and routinesMeets the physical requirements necessary to perform the assigned duties safely and effectively Minimum Qualifications Must be 18 years of ageMust be a high school graduate or GEDMust participate in Safe Environment (Called to Protect) Training and sign the Code of Ethics Policy
