Building Superintendent - Division of General Services - Department of Public WorksOrganizational Overview:The Bergen County Division of General Services is responsible for all County-owned and -leased buildings (excluding all Parks Department facilities). The Division is responsible for all improvements, maintenance and repairs, along with coordinated contracted services. All emergency repairs are responded to 24 hours per day, 7-day per week, 365-day per year basis. In addition, General Services' staff is responsible for snow removal from walkways and parking areas connected to County-owned buildings and several leased properties.Job Description:This employment opportunity is to serve as the Building Superintendent in the Division of General Services. Under direction, has charge of and supervises the cleaning and maintenance of buildings and grounds and the operation of elevators; does other related duties as required.Job Responsibilities (may include but not limited to):Has charge of and supervises work involved in cleaning and maintenance of desks, chairs, rugs, lighting fixtures, windows, and other furniture and fixtures.Has charge of and supervises work involved in maintenance and care of grounds adjacent to public buildings.Has charge of and supervises work involved in sweeping, washing, sanding, and waxing floors.Has charge of and supervises the operation of elevators.Has charge of and supervises work involved in storing office equipment and supplies.Participates in the preparation of budget estimates.Requisitions materials and supplies.Gives assignments and instruction to assigned employees.Prepares reports.Supervises the establishment of records and files.Schedule:Full time (40 hours/week)Occasional overtimeEducation and Experience Requirements:High School DiplomaFive (5) years of experience in work involving the inspection, planning the cleaning and maintenance of furniture, offices, and buildings, and/or the reconditioning, care, and maintenance of grounds, two (2) years of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity.Other Requirements:Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.Excellent oral and written communication skillsWhat we offer:Health, Dental, and Vision CoverageEnrollment into the state pension systemLife, Short-term Disability & Long-term Disability coverageGenerous Paid Time OffVoluntary Deferred Compensation PlanTuition ReimbursementEmployee Assistance and Employee Wellness Programs
