OverviewGFT is seeking a BIM / CAD Designer - Transportation to join our transportation group in New York, NY. Explore some of our signature projects here.What you'll be challenged to doAs a BIM / CAD Designer - Transportation, you will apply your transportation design expertise within a model-centric environment to deliver high-quality roadway, bridge, drainage, and related infrastructure projects. You will develop and refine 3D design models, prepare construction documents, and coordinate closely with survey, utilities, structures, and other disciplines to ensure accurate, efficient project delivery. Working within established digital delivery workflows, you will leverage BIM tools and Common Data Environments to support collaboration, data integration, and model quality. You will help resolve modeling and coordination challenges, integrate design data with GIS and other project information, and contribute to continuous improvement of model-based practices. This role requires a strong production mindset, attention to detail, and the ability to balance hands-on design responsibilities with effective participation in a digital delivery environment.ResponsibilitiesWork within the project Common Data Environment (CDE) following established digital delivery workflowsCoordinate with the Digital Delivery and IT teams to ensure models, data, and standards are applied correctlySupport model setup, file organization, and data integration for transportation projectsAssist with maintaining model quality, consistency, and alignment with project BIM standardsTroubleshoot basic modeling, referencing, and data exchange issues and escalate when neededIntegrate design models with GIS and other project data sources for improved project contextParticipate in digital coordination meetings to support model alignment across disciplinesStay current with relevant BIM tools, features, and model-centric design practicesProvide informal guidance to team members on model-based workflows and digital toolsAssist engineering staff with the development of roadway, drainage, and related transportation designs using model-based workflowsAssist with the creation and modification of 3D models, alignments, profiles, and corridors using Bentley or Autodesk design platformsAssist with the preparation of construction documents, plan sheets, and design deliverables from project modelsCoordinate design elements with survey, utilities, structures, and other disciplinesApply DOT standards, client requirements, and project specifications to transportation design tasksParticipate in project meetings to coordinate technical design and modeling decisionsReview design work for quality, accuracy, and constructability within the model environmentSupport project delivery through all phases, including concept, preliminary, and final designAssist with responding to review comments and revising models and plans accordinglyWhat you will bring to our firmMinimum 10 years of experience in the Transportation industryProficient in Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) for transportation and infrastructure projectsProficient MicroStation OpenRoads, OpenBridge, etc.Solid communication skillsProblem-solving mindset with the ability to troubleshoot technical challengesAttention to detail and a commitment to high-quality workAbility to thrive in a fast-paced dynamic environmentWhat we prefer you bringAssociate's or Bachelor's degree in architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related industry experienceProficient in Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, ACC, Civil3D, and InfraWorksProficiency in ProjectWiseExperience working on complex, multidisciplinary projects in a BIM environmentUnderstanding of 3D, 4D, and 5D BIM processes, including clash detection, scheduling, and quantity take-offsKnowledge of ISO 19650 and other relevant BIM standardsCompensation and BenefitsCompensation: The range for this position is $95,000 – $125,000.
