This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working hands-on with automotive hardware, embedded systems, and development infrastructure while collaborating closely with software, test, and engineering productivity teams.The Hardware Lab Support Engineer serves as the primary hardware subject matter expert (SME) supporting Android Automotive OS (AAOS) and Google Automotive Services (GAS) development environments. You will be responsible for deploying, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting automotive development benches, vehicle platforms, and lab infrastructure used for software development, integration, and partner validation.This position plays a critical role in ensuring engineering teams have reliable, operational test environments while driving continuous improvements in lab efficiency, automation, and operational readiness.RequirementsKey ResponsibilitiesServe as the hardware SME for AAOS/GAS development benches, partner OEM platforms, and automotive lab infrastructureDeploy, configure, bring up, and maintain AAOS development benches and vehicle hardware environmentsPerform Android OS image flashing, firmware updates, ECU reflashing, and software deployments across development platformsTroubleshoot hardware, firmware, software, networking, and system integration issues affecting engineering and validation activitiesDiagnose issues using Android Debug Bridge (ADB), Linux command-line tools, logs, and structured debugging methodologiesPartner closely with Software Engineering, Engineering Productivity (EngProd), Test Engineering, and cross-functional teams to resolve lab issues and maintain operational readinessSupport pre-certification testing environments, including CTS, VTS, and ATS compatibility testing infrastructureMonitor lab health and proactively maintain hardware, test benches, and engineering equipmentPerform hardware upgrades, repairs, preventative maintenance, and infrastructure improvementsConduct root cause analysis for system failures and implement corrective actions to improve reliability and reduce downtimeDevelop and maintain documentation for hardware configurations, deployment procedures, reflashing guides, and lab operationsManage hardware inventory, asset tracking, and equipment lifecycleIdentify opportunities to improve lab automation, efficiency, repeatability, and engineering support workflowsRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience3+ years of experience supporting hardware labs, embedded systems, automotive development environments, or related technical operationsHands-on experience troubleshooting hardware, firmware, software, and system integration issuesExperience with hardware deployment, system bring-up, bench configuration, and test infrastructure setupExperience performing operating system, firmware, or ECU reflashingStrong understanding of Android, Linux, and embedded operating systemsFamiliarity with networking fundamentals within hardware lab or automotive environmentsExperience using ADB, command-line tools, log analysis, and structured debugging techniquesExcellent troubleshooting, organizational, and communication skillsAbility to work independently in a fast-paced engineering environmentPreferred QualificationsExperience supporting Android Automotive OS (AAOS), Google Automotive Services (GAS), or Android-based infotainment systemsFamiliarity with Vehicle HAL (VHAL), Android Automotive APIs, or automotive middlewareExperience supporting OEM development benches or automotive vehicle platformsKnowledge of CAN, CANalyzer, CANoe, Automotive Ethernet, USB, or serial communication protocolsExperience supporting CTS, VTS, or ATS certification testingScripting experience using Python, Bash, or ADB automationExperience using Jira, Buganizer, or similar engineering tracking toolsFamiliarity with OTA update processes, Android build systems, or flashing pipelinesTechnical SkillsAndroid Automotive OS (AAOS)Google Automotive Services (GAS)Android Debug Bridge (ADB)Linux & Command-Line ToolsHardware & Firmware TroubleshootingOS/Firmware/ECU ReflashingVehicle HAL (VHAL)Automotive NetworkingCAN, CANoe, CANalyzerCTS / VTS / ATSPython or Bash ScriptingHardware Bring-upRoot Cause AnalysisTest Bench SupportLab Operations & Asset ManagementCross-functional CollaborationBenefitsBenefitsMedical, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance401(k) MatchingPaid Time Off and HolidaysCareer Growth OpportunitiesCollaborative and Innovative Work Environment
